http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/sports/2785857 Everett's cast off Astros shortstop Adam Everett, who has been out since breaking a bone in his wrist Aug. 6, had his cast removed Wednesday and was excited to be able to travel with the team for the first time since being injured. "It's a huge step, not only physically but mentally as well," Everett said. "I finally get to travel with the team, and it's nice to feel like I'm a part of it." Everett will continue to wear a plastic brace that he can remove during rehab, which will intensify now that he's cast-free. He hopes to be able to return by the end of the month.
Would be a great defensive option at this point... we all know how SS blunders are bad news in the playoffs (Lugo... Lugo...LUGO!)
I think Everett was turning into a really solid SS. His hitting was really coming around before he got hurt. Sub him in place of Viz and our lineups a lot more lethal
I really like Everett, but honestly I don't think that his bat being out of the everyday line up has helped this offense.
You mean hurt the offense? If so, I would agree with you. Viz is a much better hitter. But damned if I don't like Adam Everett more. He's going to be a very solid contributor on this team for a very long time.
http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/sports/2822869 Everett activated Astros shortstop Adam Everett, who had been out since suffering a fractured left wrist on Aug. 6, was activated from the 15-day disabled list Wednesday. "He can run, and he can probably play defense," Astros manager Phil Garner said of Everett. "I'm watching him today take batting practice, and this is the best he's swung the bat so far. He looks firm through the zone. He was a little tentative (Tuesday)." Everett visited with Astros physician Dr. Tom Mehlhoff on Tuesday and received clearance to come off the DL Wednesday. "It's nice," Everett said. "It's a long time back. Honestly, it's a little scary, but it's going to be fun. I've been looking forward to this a long time. Ever since I broke my wrist, I've been wanting a chance to get back and to be out there and play again. It's going to be a lot of fun." Everett was hitting .273 with eight home runs and 31 RBIs over 102 games while playing his usual high-caliber defense before he was hurt.
He'll probably be used solely as a pinch runner and late inning defensive replacement. Viz should continue to start no matter how far the Astros go.
