As were experiencing the loss of electricity, what do EV drivers do? Are they SOL until electricity is restored?

Depends on various factors. I'm not in Houston (so not affected by any of the power issues), but I usually plug in my EV every day and keep it close to 80% every day. If I lost power, I'd probably have 180-200 miles of range (more if I planned on charging to 100% due to a storm). Since I don't really drive much (30 miles in a day is about the most I'd do), that's probably 6-7 days of daily driving, if not much more. If I knew things were going to be that bad, I'd probably just drive to another area with power (regardless of owning an EV) and stay there temporarily, though obviously that depends on lots of variables and not everyone has that option.

I actually think EVs are probably better than a gas vehicle in situations like this, though again depends on your setup. Ideally you'd have a car that supports V2L/V2H (or whatever it is called) so you can actually power (part of?) your house in the event of extended power outages like this. Though my current EV doesn't support this...so that's not really great. :(

Tesla’s future appears to be dwindling as the brand’s sales continue to decline in the Golden State; registrations are down a significant 17 percent YTD (as compared to last year). While Tesla’s Model Y remains the top-selling car in the State, Tesla sales may have peaked. This new data marks the brand’s third consecutive quarter with registration declines (dipping 24.1 percent in Q2 2024, 7.8 percent in Q1 2024, and 9.8 percent in Q4 2023).

    Tesla -17%
    VW -34

    Audi +77
    KIA +72
    Hyundai +65
    BMW +59
    Nissan +33
    Ford +26

Mrs. rimrocker, who is not a car person by any means, recently noted that Teslas are looking really dated. I agree. Perhaps others do as well. The Model T was cool but when other options came around, it didn’t hold the appeal. Then there is Musk sabotaging his own business through his weird political posts and activities. I know more than one person who will never buy a Tesla because of that and that group seems to be growing daily. (No D&D)

Agreed, especially for Model Y. IMO it's not that the design is dated in a vacuum. I think it looks decent (as well as an aerodynamic blob can look). But it's dated since it has been unchanged for the last few years. It's own success is to its detriment. The Model Y is the new Camry and Accord, good car, but loses appeal when you see them everywhere. I also think Tesla way over prices paint colors, so most people end up getting the same grey or white.

I know it's anecdotal but my sister said a hard NO yest when my BIL suggested a Tesla.
My other buddy (who is a car guy) got a model S for his wife.

I personally wouldn't get one for 2 reasons. I think the build quality is piss poor and whatever complaints I have, I will have to deal with the "Tesla is the best, you're using it wrong" attitude. ...and two...it's Musk.

I got rid of my BMW iX....and found a new Nissan Ariya for...DIRT CHEAP. They were handing those out for free lol.

    I actually like it!

It was cool, but one thing I learned about myself: I'm just not a full-sized pickup kind of guy.

On the other hand, I was shocked because my wife absolutely LOVED it. She was blown away, so there remains a very slim chance we buy one when my reservation comes up.

I've said to everyone that will listen the Model Y is the closest thing to perfection for a family vehicle. The Model X is indeed better, but only for people who have 4+ kids or no budgetary constraints. The Model 3 is great for folks like me who rarely have passengers and don't give a care about being higher up from the ground. (Model S feels too big IMO).

To each his/her own. Buying a Tesla was the best vehicle decision I've ever made, which is why we have two.

Get off my lawn guy here ;) I`ve driven in a few Uber cars that were a Tesla and I loved them, I just can't get past having to stop and charge but the cars I have seen have some great features. The thing now is, I see so many now (they all seem to be white and gray) they have lost some of the mystique. But hey, I am sure if you have one you love it, I just can't move on from fossil fuel just yet.......maybe one day though

Ariya translates to Altima in English.

I look forward to test driving the CT. I have the same concerns. The CT is ~25% longer and for a daily driver who will not utilize most of the features, it doesn't make sense.
I love my Model Y. Its not perfect, but close enough. I would like to see a 25% increase in range and a full 48VDC system with bi-directional charging. Living in FL, the AC is a little underwhelming and the fan is noisy for anything over low. Overall, its the best car I have owned. I had a tow hitch installed and I have access to a utility trailer for when I do need light hauling.
I like the model X but it is a bit pricy for the small amount of quality gain.

If you go to nissan.com every model name is actually Altima but in different shapes.

Looks too much like a minivan and not a mini van.

that range is too little for a van. I would want longer range capacity for something presumably used more for road trips than the typical electrical car.
    Ideally 300...
