Bregman at 1B is an excellent idea. He'll be late-career Bagwell (great fielder, but can't throw). It's important the Astros keep DH more available... 1) players not named Alex need rest 2) Yordan can be avoided in LF more often and 3) simply adding a bat... it's called DH, after all. The big question is 3B, both offensively and defensively. Whitcomb looked more comfortable after his first two starts defensively, but it's gonna be a tall task expecting him being league-average (or better) offensively. Maybe the Astros get lucky with Gamel adding offense in the outfield. All these damn injuries -- Astros need some extra fortune to win a championship, along with Tucker's return <-- hopefully that happens Sept ~7th.
This. Deflating loss after deflating loss, it is taking a toll. They looked too professional after losing 7 of 8. The Mariners currently looked like how we play in April/May losing 1 run games and not closing games. When the Dodgers was up 8-1, if not for those garbage 3 runs. In those losses in the road trip, the Mariners scored just 12 runs in 7 games (less than 2 a game). The Mariners broadcast said after the game, the worst case scenario happened.
He has been a league average hitter. Doesn’t offer much HR power or speed or defense but is passable in RF and LF, bats lefty, takes walks. He’s a fine 4th OF who can also play 1B.
Gamel is probaly a project of GM Brown similar to Taylor Scott. Low risk, high reward and much better than Garbage (from the Angels).
Good? .... no. He's a 96 OPS+ career hitter. Not sure about his defense, but maybe we catch lightning in a bottle at the plate. He's better than Cabbage, Dubon, and Chas (this season), so at least there's that.
Altuve 2B Bregs DH Alvarez LF, DH Diaz C Tucker RF Caratini 1B Pena SA Gamel LF, DH Meyers CF That's a playoff worthy lineup.
