Bregman's postgame interview was worrisome. He said, "I'll see how it (his elbow) feels the rest of the year" --- not, "the next few days or weeks". His mindset is considering the remainder of the season. This doesn't sound like a short term problem, at all. He sounded like his chances of playing defense again this year is highly questionable.
In Cuba, he played over 90% of his games at 1b. In the Astros system he played 1/3 of his games in 2016 and 2017 at 1b. He was still playing some 1b in AA and AAA in 2018 and 2019. I understand 1b is more difficult that the average fan realizes but big league players move there all the time- see Kyle Schwarber and Brice Harper- and Yordan actually has a pretty significant background there. I'm not saying he can do it now, or should. I'm saying they should have given him some reps there in the past and keep him reasonably familiar in case of emergency - like another star being able to only DH.
I'm sure he has bone spurs or some loose bodies or damage that will need to be surgically repaired after the season. It feels like he will miss a few games here or there and have to DH a bunch the rest of the season. At least that fixes the LF problem !
I remember when the Astros put an end to that experiment. Apparently it was a disaster. You can pretty much tell he would get eaten alive by ground balls.
But this also means less DH chances for Caratini and Yainer when the other one is catching...unless Yainer can play solid at first base
I privately wondered if Bregman "hurt his arm" after his hot streak so he could ride the out the season without risk to get his next contract. Am I right?
... and a downgrade at 3B defensively. We've already seen miscues there in Bregman's short absence. It will also equal lesser offensive production from 3B. This damn sure isn't a "slept on it wrong" situation -- and could be the ultimate demise of championship aspirations. Nah.... it's just another missed championship.
Or Diaz is going to play a lot more first base while Yordan plays nearly every game in LF with a revolving door at third base. Get ready for some more 4 error games!
Changing the color of the batter's eye didn't help Yordan at home. He's just a completely different player on the road.
Been the story of the Astros most of their run 2016-present it seems like. Offense crushes on the road and is not as good at home.
Orioles got walked off earlier. I'm sure they'll be eager to redeem themselves. Especially since we swept them last time.
The Astros can't continue to be competitive with this many injuries to key players. Half the players in the starting lineups are minor leaguers.
