Getting our team noticed is the next step. Hopefully the “NBA world” falls in love with us. National televised games changes player’s career. If the upper management of the league like us. The referees will eventually start to help us, too.
This is a classic example of why the Rockets would want KD. Experienced players are the best examples.
Durant would be the best player on our team even if he was turning 40. By the time clutch fans figures out our your talent isn’t that talented, it’ll be too late.
I don't think anyone disagrees that Durant would instantly be the best player on our team. It's also true for like 28 other teams. The problem is if we trade for him we don't realistically have a shot at winning it all before he retires with how young the rest of our core is. So trading for him doesn't make sense.
People overthink this kind of stuff - become a 50 win caliber team, then you can take the next step. If the Rockets can get Durant for the right price they should, worrying about timelines is secondary to improving dramatically
This is what the nets thought when they add Pierce and KG to Deron Williams. It has the potential to blow up in your face. I think the Rockets would be better off getting Booker.
So what? The nets won 22 games in 2012 before they got all those guys. They had a starting lineup of Kris Humphries, Deron Williams, Marshon Brooks and Sheldon Williams Then they got them and won 27 more games immediately. They were actually good. Then it blew up 2016 , then they got Durant and Irving and Harden a few years later had their best ever team, IMO. I don't know what lesson I'm supposed to learn from that at all. They were terrible and got better mortgaging their future, then they were terrible and rapidly got better. There's not really any guarantees they end up drafting Tatum and Brown and winning championships otherwise if they'd "stayed the course" - maybe they would've drafted first in 2017 and ended up with Markelle Fulz or Lonzo Ball instead of Jayson Tatum - who knows.
