Extending my prior analogy, that would be like telling your wife that I'm going to cheat on you but only once. That husband can't then say, "Oh, honey, I was just joking." What?! She wasn't even thinking it but now he brought it up so it can't be unsaid. It's a non-negotiable subject that is a third rail topic. That context doesn't help ...even if Hannity baited him. Your argument is basically the military is "big" Because a military requires a large amount of people just Like every premier country - But something is not considered big if it's not a large expenditure-
I'll break it down - Let's say I have a budget for my business and I spend 13% of my annual budget on weed trimmer line-
You Can say based on the linear foot that the trimmer line is a big part of the business- But I'm only spending 13% of my annual budget on trimmer line. It doesn't matter that the trimmer line takes up a lot of linear feet- That's not a big part of my slice of pie

13% is NOT big and never will be regardless that there's a lot of people involved in the military because it's a vital numerical Personnel requirement

So when I'm saying the government keep it small, you have to keep vital aspects - Which includes our defense, which yes does involve a lot of people but also only cost 13% of our annual budget and that's indisputable.
Weed trimmer line requires a lot of linear feet but it's a SMALL vital aspect of my YEARLY BUDGET!!!!

When it's a vital component of a government function - Not really- But we can agree to disagree

If I'm only spending 13% on something for my business, but it's still vital - To me that's a win
When I advocate for small government or most people in my position, we consider something such as the military as vital and if we can keep it 13% or less, that's fantastic
