From what i saw on Ryan bowens profile he is more of a defensive foward. The guy only played like 8 minutes a game last year and really didn't do much. I think JVG brought him in to hustle on defense when we need to have a stop etc. At first i thought this was going to take away from Boki but then looking at what type of player he is and was in Denver i do'nt think it's really going to effect Boki's minutes much. He is a filler in the roster and will come off the bench to provide some needed defense is someone is getting burned i think and just basically hustle.
1. Ward, Lue, Sura, Gaines 2. T-Mac, Gaines, Sura, Jim Jackson 3. Boki, JJ, Ryan Bowen, Sura, Gaines 4. Juwan Howard, Mo Taylor, Padgett, Spoon 5. Yao, Mutombo Fairly versatile lineup.
I agree with a lot of your Post, but I believe JVG's system and Rox players/staff will be perfect for Deke. The downside is an unthinkable work stoppage by Yao. Thus I had hoped for Scott Williams.
If boki plays at a level like he did in the playoffs and improves on this he will gets his minutes... for me the signing of Bowen means JJax won't have to play anywhere near 40 minutes a game... i would guess maybe 30.... assuming Bowen gets minutes, it's probably Gaines who goes from some minutes to none.... as with Boki i hope both him and Reece and can give us some youthful energy otherwise we will have a bunch of great smarts on ancient legs supporting Yap and TMac
A couple of reasons. - Because JVG said he expects Boki to take the next step and be a bigger contributer earlier this past summer. - He is a first round pick that has shown flashes. Ryan Bowen is not some guy the Rockets brought in here to take Boki's place. That much should be more than obvious.
I've heard the great Riley's statement bout the new guy. But really, is he all that? I am rooting for Boki to come of age this year and kick some butt. If not, then I guess we will see what the Bowen that no one has heard of can do. OUT
Ryan Bowen = JVG guy. Recommended to him by mentor Pat Riley. Hand-picked by JVG. Known for defense. Boki Nachbar = Rudy T guy. Inherited from previous administration. Known for his offense (even if he can't produce in a real game), not particularly for his defense. Which of these do you think will win the PT competition?
Man, try to post in some form of English around here, if you want anyone to take you seriously. We have members who translate Chinese for us, and we really appreciate it, but you can count on people skimming past your posts, if your gonna press on in this fashion. Besides, it's probably easier for you to post in a semi-coherent way, than to go to so much trouble concocting that jazz. Keep D&D Civil!!
I think that Boki will win if he continues to work hard, plays with passion like we saw in crunch time of the playoff series against LA last year, and matches Bowen's "hustle".
The better question is what is everyone's obsession in calling out folks who have positive things to say about Boki Nachbar's play?
I thought we beat 3 or 4 teams to get this guy? Heats, Bucks, T-Wolves, ... to name a few. why did he chose Houston to sit behind Boki for NO playing time?
What makes you think that he was not going to occupy the end of the bench on any of those teams. They were not offering him huge contracts and guarunteed minutes. The guy is a nice hustle player and a good guy to have at the end of the bench.
Three things are certain IMO. 1. The Rockets did not bring in Bowen to replace Boki. 2. Boki will be givin the oppertunity to be one of the rotation players and have a much bigger impact on the team this year. 3. If Boki can not live up to his end of the bargain and Bowen is better then Bowen will get some of his minutes if not all.
I think there are maybe only 5 centers in the league MoT or JH cannot play "respectably" when you consider what they can do offensively to them relative to what they give up defensively. And of the 3 biggest problem centers (for opponents) in the league: two of them are in the east--Shaq & Z, and the other is on his team. Even Brad Miller, probably an all-star center this year, does not have the kind of size and inside game to totally roast and exploit putting a guy like MoT or JH at C. Ditto for Rasha. Damp could be a problem individually, but I think any time Dallas would choose to run their offense through him--even versus MoT or JH--rather than their other options is a net good thing. Divic could be problematic too, but he has to play fewer minutes than Yao and the Lakers would need him to focus on Yao so Vlade would never get a chance at our back-ups. There is just a dearth of centers who are good options to run an offense through where playing MoT or JH there would kill you--and when those situations do present themselves we do have the size and defense in Deke to turn to. The biggest problem with taking Yao out is interior team defense--I do agree MoT or JH are poor replacements for that. But along with the occasional match up need versus a Shaq, Z, that is where Deke can primarily step in. And unlike other squads, we only need 12-15 MPG for Deke and not even in every game. That is the major difference from him being here, versus other places. I still would not trade our C spot in overall quality, depth and versitility over any other team in the league I can think of.
