well that makes: yao-deke JH-mo-spoon jj-padgett-boki tmac-gaines-sura (inj) ward-lue-zim looks like ther eis one more spot left (assuming zimmerman makes the team). im pretty sure that spot is going to ryan bowen.
Detroit had him in camp last year and he almost made the team. He's not just fodder. Athletic and strong. Needs some work on the rest of it, but he's probably been doing that in the minors. It could be his time. A good camp signing at the least.
Well, he clearly knew his game well enough to get a good shooting percentage in college - but just as clearly has no 3pt range. He has good size at 6'3, but is there a point to having him on the Rockets if the other team could just leave him open on the perimeter? Unless he's a really good defender AND a heady player, I smell training camp fodder.
Derrick Zimmerson can definitely make this team. When he got drafted by the Warriors, I compared him to poor-man's Gilbert Arenas. He is not as athletic as Arenas but he definitely has good hops. He is also a heady player who plays within systems. He led SEC in assist column once and that's no small feat in itself, consider that he actually did not play point guard until his junior season. He was a scorer throughout his high-school career and a spark-plug off the bench in his first two college seasons in MSU. He is not a naturally ball-distributor but he was willing to try and actually did it pretty well, part of the reason was Mario Austin (think he could do that with Yao too?) but that also showed how smart he was - He realized that low-post option. His high shooting percentage was a little bit deceiving, since he got many of his points off layups and dunks. He could blow by most defenders with ease but did not try to over do it, sometimes to a passive way. He can't shoot, that I think was the reason he couldn't get a spot with the Warriors and then Pistons. He was a good defender in college. Not great but good. I guess with his length and athletism, he could easily reach Ty Lue's level if given chance. That was my impressions before he disappeared on my radar after that short Pistons stinks. If he has improved from, he definitely has a good shot.
I think he has a one year contract but I hope it's not guaranteed. If he can prove that he can make the team in preseason then we should give him a chance.
The guy is on NBA LIVE 2004 as a free agent and his stats are not very impressive but that is just a game. I already added him to my lineup...lol
I'm sure his contract is contingent on him making the team. The Rockets need extra bodies at camp and they bring in extra people every year that have little or no chance to make the team...all teams in all the major sports do this.
