Seems like a good guy. Hard worker. Puts his head down. Brings his lunch pail to the office every day. First one in last one out type of guy. Sneaky athleticism. Did I miss any?
That’s just a tad ambitious. Seager struck out at about half the rate Whitcomb did in AAA, while he was 4 years younger. If you’re looking at an absolute best case scenario for Whitcomb, I’d say Paul Goldschmidt is a good comp, but that’s his 99th percentile outcome.
Damn if he can hit like Paul Goldschmidt... fans should be thanking that the stars keep shining on the Astros, and the league is fcked for another 5yrs+
Happ is a switch hitter but yeah as a 90th percentile outcome it makes sense. Breakdown of chances of outcome comps: 1% Paul Goldschmidt or better 10% Ian Happ or better 30% Chas McCormick, Brandon Drury, Ryan McMahon, Lane Thomas, Garrett Cooper or better 40% Patrick Wisdom or better 50% Mike Ford or better 75% Jack Mayfield or better 90% Nick Pratto or better
Guy has completely flipped his K-rate and SLUG since last season. The difference has been amazing. Let's see the MLB translation.... .
The refusal to bring in a legitimate bat at the deadline could end up being the one thing that prevents us from truly competing for another ring this year. To lose Tucker, have no real clarity on his return, and routinely trot out Singleton, Chas, Meyers, Dubon, Cabbage, and a bunch of unheralded rookies is such a slap in the face to the potential of this year's team. The fact that they're trotting out a new rookie a week to very limited success speaks volumes.
"refusal" is perhaps not the right word... unless you were willing to part with Hunter Brown (which was the Rays asking price of the Astros for any of their hitters). There's markup... and then there's markup for the Astros.
Just play Caratini more and put Alvarez in LF. more. Hopefully Whitcomb can come through until, if Tucker gets healthy.
Amazing he made 2 all star appearances considering how bad his first halves have been year after year. But his 2nd halves have been awesome enough to have 4 seasons with MVP votes.
