It is disturbing that the minority of voters have managed to get the majority of power.

Electoral College, certainly as constructed is stupid and anti-democratic. Gerrymandering is also way screwed up. I used to vote with my local area. Then they gerrymandered me to voting with people 2 hours South. Now I'm voting with people 2 hours to the West. I want to back to having a representative from the region I actually live in. I don't even get to vote with 99% of the people in my county.

The electoral college is based off the number of House Representatives and Senators. The whole thing got ****ed when the cap on the House was introduced. The Housse had always expanded based upon the population in the Country. Once that stopped things started getting skewed. That is why a vote in California technically counts less than a vote in Wyoming. This is why the Elctoral College is outdated and not used in the way it was originally intended. So much for originalism I guess.

Pretty much all of the voting mechanisms that were implemented 250 years ago to facilitate far flung voters have now been subverted by the GOP to cling to power.

Today, the House of Representatives offers a distorted version of proportional representation, swayed by population, gerrymandering, and unlimited large donors.

Not quite, because electoral votes are not strictly proportional to voting-age population. Smaller states get more electoral votes per capita than larger states, by design.

I’m suggesting to keep that the same, but make the number of electoral votes that go to each candidate within a state proportional to popular vote in that state. Seems like it would address concerns by both sides.

I just looked and you’re correct I didn’t know that either. It seems like most things are skewed to help a party that has mostly unpopular views keep things the way they are with a two party system.
