If he will accept a lowered role into the sub-30 minutes range I guess I'm okay with keeping him around for awhile. Depends on his attitude about the whole thing. There were some issues in Memphis, so far he seems to be doing fine here, but something to keep in mind.

He has never said anything in the Rox locker room I think as long as he starts doesnt matter if his mins get cut. And if he does become a cry baby Stone can just trade him away since we got guys hungry for his spot.

I will never understand how we added two veteran starters, doubled our win total from the previous season, and you guys are mad at one of them. If you can't see how integral Dillon was to our new defensive mentality and toughness then I don't know what to tell you. Do you remember that stretch where our guys were damn near getting into fights every 2-3 games? Tell me the kids on our team would have had that mentality without Dillon standing beside them. I know Ime deserves a lot of credit for his defensive schemes, but he isn't out on the floor with them. And I love Tari, but is Tari going to be in the face of every guy who puts a hard foul on our guys? Would the opposing player even care if he did? Brooks is built like a gawddamned tank and you better believe there aren't many who want any part of that. If they get Adams to sign like a 2-3 year extension I can believe he could play that role, though I think we'll need to see how he comes back before they even consider offering him an extension. And in that case, MAYBE you can replace Dillon with Tari and move on from Dillon, but frankly, I'm more excited to see both Dillon and Adams bullying these other teams for 48 minutes a game.

I like that idea but I find it hard to believe he can earn a single minute if:

Tari is making 37% of his 3's
Amen is making 30% of his 3's

I don't think that's super unlikely. I often say rebounds are the least impactful stat but in this scenario you're comparing two absolutely elite rebounders to arguably the worst SF rebounder in the NBA. Will definitely show up in impact.

We haven't seen Tari/Amen guard the best wings every night over a whole season but I bet they'd be at least as good as Brooks at that. I think Tari/Amen/Jabari can handle almost all the SF/PF minutes except for a few minutes at PF.

IMO we need to get value out of that $20m salary elsewhere. Would love to have a Jeff Green upgrade at backup PF. I think it would be better use of our money.

However, there is a culture element to this thing too. Rightly or wrongly, the players like him and listen to him on defense. Our young guys all need to be more aggressive and Brooks does bring the energy to the team. I wouldn't mess with it unless a very safe trade came along to upgrade the team.

I still think we'll easily get an expiring contract and a late first round pick for Brooks and a second round pick. Could just stash his value for future upgrades.

This coming season Brooks and FVV are really going to have to earn their minutes and salary. I predict it won't be easy for them but we might get better and more complimentary play out of them.

I don't think many people are "mad" at Brooks. With a lot of young guys waiting to have a chance to break out at his position, he just doesn't warrant starter minutes anymore. And since he is being paid as a starter, it's probably better to trade him for some future assets in terms of roster management.

Do you no how stupid that sounds? Dillon Brooks was the sole reason we has a decent start last year. He was on fire

Yeah unfortunately it's true. Dillon Brooks was the hottest player on the team the beginning of last year idiot

    Appropriately summarized.

Merely think he would not be worth much on the trade market.

Correct. The problem is these dudes rush to post Sengun's cherry picked analytics so much they don't understand anything outside of PER #'s. What Dillon Brooks did was change our whole defensive culture. There is no analytic for that

I agree with all your points, except to start the season he will be inserted into the starting line-up because Ime, right or wrong, will defer to vets until he can no longer justify it. Amen is the one that will suffer most if Dillion is on this team to start the season. He should be getting at least 30 mins a game, every game. He is a huge difference maker on this team, but I fear he will only be getting 20-23 mins to start the season.

I would put that a bit differently. I would say that Ime goes with the vets until someone else can prove they are the better player and/or prove they make the team better.

And by prove, I mean longer than a couple games or even a couple weeks of games.

Don't fear at all, it's a 100% certainty Amen won't get many minutes to start the season. You're 100% right about Brooks that Udoka will favor him to start the season.

I think most likely we deal Brooks at the deadline but that will depend heavily on how well Tari is shooting. Udoka knows this team doesn't have enough volume of good shooting. Tari is going to have to beat Brooks' 36% on 5 attempts mark because this offense is already majorly lacking on shooting options around the shot creators. Sengun, Green and eventually Amen should never be playing on such a poorly spaced floor.

There is really no excuse for Dillon getting more minutes than Amen. He is better at every single thing in basketball other than 3 Pt shooting. His offensive rebounds alone make up for what little spacing Brooks brings to the table. Him eating up Amen’s minutes is all about keeping Vets happy so that other Vets will come here. I believe it is a strategic mistake, because we will need every win we can muster to make the playoffs this year, which really is more important to attract FA’s than Dillon’s feelings. I think Ime is a great coach, but I hope he doesn’t get Dusty Baker disease.

IMO, this season we'll start to see clear winners and losers on this team. Those who are most productive will get more mins vs. others. I doubt there is a change in the starting lineup to begin the season, but after 15-20 games we should see rotation mins adjusted to reward actual performance.

Be patient. By December, some folks on this forum who have pet players will be very angry while others will celebrate.

The Dillon Brooks and "other players" issues will come to a head by that point. If Dillon is chucking away and giving up silly 3 point fouls and getting ejected like he was back half of last year he'll get benched for someone else. We have like 3 players that could take that spot. Same thing for another two players in that starting lineup.
