Abreu will take Pressly's spot in the 8th. Scott, Ort, Whitley etc.... will fight it out for the 6-7th. Plus I expect Dana to find another Scott type guy off of the scrap heap next off-season.
Pressly has full no-trade rights as a 10/5 player. I don't think he is the type who wants to jump teams. I would be surprised if he is traded. I also think that MAYBE Brown asks him how he would feel about a trade but no more than that. No way Brown actually shops him w/o his blessing first. And I don't think he is likely to get it. Don't get me wrong. I don't think Ryan would put up a fuss if the Astros were aggressive about it and indicated they no longer want him. I just think there is no chance they do that. Overall- 10% chance of a trade IMO.
I think this is correct. Without the 10/5 protection I think it would be 90/10 they shop him/move him. With to 10/5 I think it's 10/90 he gets moved. If we get some guys back healthy and the guys in the minors and bullpen flotsam keeps pitching well I'd get really proactive about trying to move him, personally.
I've been in favor of trading him since we got Hader. Get some flexibility. Interesting though is it made me look back at the guys we gave up for him. Jorge Alcala (0 recollection of him) has a 2.25ERA with a 0.955 WHIP for the Twins this season. Injuries derailed his career for a couple of seasons, but he's been very impressive this season.
I'm thinking if a team like the Red Sox/Mets etc.. needed a closer and wanted to trade for Pressly he would jump at the chance to close for a contender in a contract year. Of course I could be very wrong about this.
One thing to think about when a low-level prospect finally figures it out (Alcala, Houser, Whoever) is that the roster may not have had room for them (Rule 5) and the big league roster didn't have room to let them learn how to play. It took Houser 4 years, it took Alcala 3 after they were traded.
There was obviously a cutoff at some year, '68 maybe? Musial: .915 closest I could find, but that may not count either

Agreed that we’ll see what happens come September 1… but doesn’t King count as a non-closer lefty? I wasn’t familiar with his background. He pitched decently in A/AA in 2022 and got Tommy John. We picked him up in minor league Rule 5 in December 2022 — a time when we had no GM, anticipating he’d come back in 2024. Enters AAA ball at the beginning of this year, and pitches well enough to get the call up. I guess it’s right, we can maintain options on him if we don’t send him down. Depending on if we go 6 man rotation to end the way, I wonder if we try and skip a start for Spaghetti or Brown or Blanco… all may be approaching career high in innings, and I wouldn’t mind keeping them fresh for the playoffs.
I was responding to the idea that Ferguson was safe because he's the best non-Hader lefty. I'm assuming you don't mean him to be #1?
