I think its why he’s so outspoken when he attaches himself to anything. He can see the passion people have, and wants to feel it too. He saw it with environmentalists, and now he sees it with right wingers.
Its hard to criticize highly successful people for not having empathy. Driven workers do not work for people like Jobs and Musk for emotional support or understanding. Also people who have learned how to become emotionally detached are not necessarily sociopaths. I think Musk understands empathy pretty well, however I think he prioritizes missions, goals and priorities over human interaction. Keep in mind many of US companies tertiary business comes at the expense of poverty stricken 3rd world countries. I don't see that with Musk's business opportunities. This comes from someone who feels the word empathy has become an overused buzz word. If we all just sat in each others traumas and feelings all day, nothing would ever get accomplished. Likewise, if people don't learn how to face their pent-up emotions, they will struggle to move on. Its incredibly naïve to expect others to stop and share our space. As a civil society, at best all we can expect is others to respect each others own individual sovereignty ... i know, thats a laughable expectation. And as always, its easier to sit around and criticize situations we know very little about. Brene Brown has a powerful thought experiment - Do you believe that a person is doing the best they possibly can?
My new favorite UK news headline: Arsehole to Interview Twat https://newsthump.com/2024/08/12/arsehole-to-interview-twat/
Musk has stated that he has Asperger’s. Generally, individuals on the autism spectrum may have difficulty interpreting social cues, facial expressions, or social norms. But, that does NOT impede their ability to understand the feelings of others (in fact, some people on the spectrum may have an enhanced sensitivity to others' emotions). It also does NOT affect their ability to distinguish between right and wrong or between genuine and conspiratorial things. In short, being on the spectrum is NOT the reason for his jerk-ness, hypocrisy, controlling tendencies, or strange conspiracy theories.
As someone who has worked with hundreds of children on the spectrum, and knows that each has their own unique gifts and challenges, I certainly am not about to agree that one man is the spectrum.
I think you misinterpreted my comment. I wasn't referring to him being on the spectrum as reason for being a jerk, racist, or controlling. I agree with you 100% there. I was simply referring to it maybe causing him difficulty in understanding emotions or social cues.
Got it. Who knows why he's like that? From what I’ve read (including statements from Musk himself, his father, mother, and wives), he grew up in an abusive environment. His father abused both his wife and his children. There might be suppressed traumas. His wife said he is chaotic, associates love with being mean or abusive, and has distinct multiple personalities (this part was really strange to read about).
Just to be clear, the thread title is obviously completely wrong. Pointing out existing tensions based on terrible policies does not mean "pushing for civil war".
