He's not the worst player on the team, but he's nowhere near a top 10 in the league player. I try to look at Jalen for his body of work and ignore the hype and hate. We have a 20 PPG low efficiency scorer entering his fourth year. He's shown the ability to close games and be the center of the offense. What I've seen a lot more often than those beautiful moments is a springy guard with a bad looking jump shot and some awkward finishing. He takes plays off on defense. He's not a great decision maker. He can make plays, and seems to be getting better at that, which is encouraging. He's not worth a max contract, but he's going to get a max contract. He'll probably even have a long NBA career. But I can't shake the feeling that he needs a change of scenery or different new role to contribute to a contending team. The Rockets made a mistake in 2021 handing him the keys to the franchise. He should have been asked to earn a starting role over a guy like Eric Gordon. Now the team is in this awkward position of pretending he's still the chosen one while pretty much everyone around him has demonstrated substantial improvements in their game as time marches forward.
Ignoring the hype and hate, he's not THE worst player on the roster... but if you look at just the guys in rotation that logged at least 800 minutes last season, he's either at the bottom or very near the bottom in most metrics and his net impact to the team has always been a negative when he's on the court vs when he's not on the court. That's just the facts, no hate, no hype.
He might be one of those late boomers who becomes consistent at an older age like 23. I know just dudes enter their primes at around 20.
I like Jalen Williams but this is overhype. I put him 7 behind Bane and Lavine. I dont think Reaves is in the top 10 at all either, obvious LA bias imo. I like the top 5 otherwise but would go with 1. Edwards 2. Booker 3. Mitchell 4. Brown 5. Bane 6. Lavine 7. Williams 8. McCollum 9. Herro 10. Green I do think by end of season, Williams will battle Bane for 5th and Jalen will battle the lesser of the 2 for 6th.
oh snap he's training with dashletics, he's a good trainer prob my top 5 trainer. We just need Cam to get a better trainer
If it does there's going to be a LOT of disappointed Rockets "fans." Which is really sad and bizarre when you think about it.
It's frankly sad that there are actually posters here praying that Green fails because their ego and time investment on hating on him for the past three years outpaces their fandom for the actual team.
Absolutely hate us using that phrase on a player that we drafted with a #2 pick! That means that the outcome is STILL uncertain!! Yes, I know he's still fairly young, and believe me when I say... "I WANT HIM TO SUCCEED!". But what if the boom never comes? What if this is as good as it gets with our #2 pick? I know you keeping pointing to his age, but he's not a rookie anymore, and at some point we're going to be forced to start calling him a young veteran who occasionally can go into Super-Saiyan mode......Unless he boomes of course, at that point we should start calling him BOOMER!! Spoiler: I want to believe.... Go Rockets!!! ....... ....... .......
It's more sad that they're a majority. If he does break out (which I fully believe he will) he'll be a prime candidate for someone who can't wait to get away from the team because the fanbase doesn't appreciate him. Thankfully he seems pretty tight with Alpi so if they win together it might counteract the complete asshattery brought about by the SOF's and KPJ ********ers like Bobby and DD. It's amazing how the majority of the hate seems well and truly CF's based, all the other NBA fans I speak to see him as the future star he is...
Jalen Green is what I expected out of a highly talented scoring guard at age 19 drafted at number two overall to a shitty team situation: A player who has feats like 9th highest scoring average for a NBA player before turning 22 or 6th most 30 pt games before turning 22 in league history with a lot of losing and below average efficiency. It is a very reasonable 19-22 year old body of work drafted at number 2. Maybe slightly disappointing but definitely within the range of a reasonable number 2 pick performance. I just get frustrated with the narrative that he hasn't shown anything in his first three years. He was a 20 year old averaging 22 ppg on 54% ts. How many twenty year olds average over 20 ppg regardless of efficiency? Obviously not many given Green's all time ranking in those metrics. Obviously there is the concept of "inflation" with higher scoring today but 19 year olds have been joining the NBA for multiple decades now and for multiple decades now plenty of high draft pick 19 year olds drafted to shitty situations and given offensive usage on day 1 couldn't get to these all time top 10 lists
Yeah those "rare late bloomers" who break out after their 3rd season like: Haliburton SGA Giannis Brunson Brown Maxey Kawhi Man it just never happens, those players who don't go big in year 3 are always absolute trash. They'll never win championships or MVP awards.
