So he didn't claim that he personally made the greatest response in the history of riots, or that everything he did was perfect, or the best since Lincoln, or that other governors came to him with tears in their eyes telling him what a great job he did, or anything like that then at least, that's good. Seriously, I'm not trying to cover for him here, I'm glad he owned up to at least making some mistakes. And thank you for answering. I do remember stuff like the Guard slashing tires of cars in parking lots and firing rubber bullets at people standing on their porches. Not the best look either... I am glad that the guard was deployed earlier in those other instances, as I'm sure you are too!

There was a post citing Adam Kinzinger who explained this earlier. Also the Minnesota National Guard confirmed that he did hold the rank of command sergeant major back when he first ran for office. I don’t choose who to believe as the Mn National Guard established that he did serve as command sergeant major. He didn’t retire at that rank though due to not serving enough time. This isn’t opinion but fact.
They might think they are doing what they can to stop the Dems but most of this over the top stuff turns off many of the voters they need. Independents. Something that was telling about the week following the disastrous debate. Biden’s numbers didn’t drop like a stone. His poll numbers still put him in striking distance. What that meant wasn’t that it was so much pro-Biden but anti Trump. Because even though Trump had about the best two weeks he could hope for event wise he and his supporters couldn’t help having a convention completely over the top rhetoric wise. While they might’ve been crowing about a landslide most polling was showing only a moderate bump in support. I have no doubt calling every Democrat a Hamas loving Socialists who wants to cut off children’s genitals might play well in Right wing circles it doesn’t play well outside of people who don’t follow Ben Shapiro or have Fox News in 18 hours a day. It cost them in the last three national elections and very well could again. Even so they just can’t help themselves.
That doesn't change that they changed his bio that said he retired at the higher rank. What part of my post are you disagreeing with?
