Also, I suspected when Loperfido was traded, I think Loperfido was being shown off at his best defensive position for potential trades. Dezenzo had less exposure to 1B, and he started there immediately, suddenly getting comfortable isnt an issue. Loperfido didn't start a single game despite it being a glaring hole.
Yeah, that was a good decision considering his defense in the outfield was his best part of his game.
I wonder if they had similar intentions with Bloss as well (yes, they needed an arm... but they were also showcasing him for potential trades). The fact that they brought him back after that shoulder scare has me thinking even more that he was "trade-bait" and they needed to show teams that he could possibly pitch at this level. At least thats my hope. He's the one that could make this trade look truly awful. If he doesn't amount to much going forward, I'll have even more confidence that this front office knows its own guys (and their likely ceilings/potential) really really well.
I got this vibe too. Maybe because he looks…Italian? Like that kind of face is the face you think of when you think of Italian American immigrants of that vintage.
I think it was similar. I do think they viewed him as the most MLB ready or maybe equally so, but also with the lowest likely ceiling of our pitching prospects.
it's funny bc it forces them to confront the fact that they have nothing in common with the culture they are essentially aping back in NJ. it's totally alien to them. so much about that show feels possibly more relevant now than when it originally aired. like a synedoche of American decline.
