I'm not a veteran and don't really know how the discharging works. So when someone says that the dude that served for over 20 years somehow let you down when he finally retired, it flies right over my head. That sounds like a made up complaint.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but he retired 6 months or so before his battalion was selected for deployment. So he by no means shirked his duty.

I think the claim was that his battalion was given advanced notice that they were likely headed for Iraq, before the deployment was official. And this may have impacted his decision to retire early. But then there are claims that he was mulling retirement prior to this. In any event, I don't begrudge someone who has the option of retiring, after decades of service, doing so because they don't wish to be party to a foolish war that was based on a bunch of lies from the Bush administration. Vance apparently didn't have that option, recognized after the fact that the venture was based on lies, and considered himself lucky that he didn't have to actually see combat duty in that war. So, while I can understand why men serving under Walz might hold it against him that he chose to not join them (if that's actually what happened), I don't consider it a major strike against Walz at all. It was a personal choice. People can serve their country in a variety of ways, and he decided to try to become a congressman for his state after crossing the age of 40. Good for him.
This outrage just seems to be grasping at straws, the man spent 24 years in the service, hell that's 24 more years then most of us. He retired and followed the proper process, people are just looking for reasons to talk smack on the dude, I get it, its politics 101 and a lot of people like me are just tired of it................the outright lies and deception by maga and the gop are just sad. As a Representative Walz voted for -The repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell -Co-sponsored repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act -expanded GI Bill benefits, to include provisions for transferring benefits to depedents - Co-sponsored expansion of mental healthcare benefits for veterans, and allowing the upgrade of mental health related discharges -Co-Sponsored expansion of rehabilitation and adult day healthcare benefits to veterans with TBI and to establish the 5 national TBI research centers - multiple VA disability process streamlining bills -expansion of VA programs focused on female veterans Like man served our country, went into congress to stand for our vets and his military service is being questioned? It's just crazy and quite insulting that folks would even attack walz for his service to our country but then again it's the same party who swiftboat John kerry and wants draft dodger trump to b commander in chief again
