I'm here the rest of the week on business. Any suggestions on things to see, places to eat, bars/clubs, etc? I just got in like an hour ago. I swear, this place is so much like Dallas, it's scary. Granted it may not have the $30K/yr millionaires, but I'd say the layout and suburbs are like Dallas with fir trees and lakes. Thanks!
I went there for a recruiting trip several years back. go the the Mall of Americas and take pleasure in the fact that there are like 4 Gap stores in one mall while much of the world is starving.
I would have to check this place out. And if you have the time you could go purify yourself in Lake Minnetonka. First Avenue 701 First Avenue N., Minneapolis MN 55403; Tel. 612.338.8388 Off Metro Transit lines 6, 1, 4, 12, 28, 5, and within walking distance of the 16, 14 and the 7. The granddaddy of Minneapolis nightlife since the '80s, First Avenue hosts a wide assortment of touring rock bands, dance music DJs, local heroes like Hüsker Dü, The Replacements, Soul Asylum and Prince, and new discoveries. Its spacious black interior is nooked and crannied to the nines, with spaces to veg out, play video games, hang on the bar or, of course, watch the band. Friday and Saturday night dance parties are a constant stream of urban uptowners, hipsters and wannabes. The annexed 7th Street Entry nightclub, linked by a doorway and a separate cover charge, hosts local acts and indie rockers seven nights a week. The Entry is notorious for New Band Night every Tuesday, where many local acts have warmed up the stage before taking on the rest of the world.
Mall of America is pretty lame for the most part, the food court is pretty massive though, and there is a planet hollywood. Vanity Fair is also an option, I don't like that kind of stuff but i guess watever floats your boat. Catch a game at the Metrodome, you'll have a good time.
I spent a weekend in Minneapolis several years ago and was wondering the same thing. If you're into sculpture, there's the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden. There's this huge cherry on top of a spoon, "Spoonbridge and Cherry" that you might want to check out. Here's some info on it from Citysearch. Overview This is a must-see for visitors. More than 40 pieces, both serious and whimsical, occupy 11 acres and the garden's most famous piece, "Spoonbridge and Cherry," has become one of Minneapolis' weirdest landmarks. It's a place where visitors can truly experience the art--by walking inside it, touching it and getting up close and personal--without those pesky museum guards demanding that guests step back.
dude, go to the Mall of America. It is really one of the most amazing things I've seen. What's crazy about it is that you expect the place to be big when you go there, but it's hard to imagine just how big it really is. Even if you don't like to shop, i'd check it out.
If you play poker there is a poker room connected to the horse track that is about 15 minutes away from the mall. I had a A's high boat beat by 4 of a kind so be careful.
If you are a baseball fan - The old stadium used to be where the Mall is now. Somewhere down in the Camp Snoopy place the is a marker where home base used to be. If I remember right there is a banner hanging from the roof where the longest homerun was hit. First Avenue has PJ Harvey Friday...
Just back from visiting supplier factory in Redwood Falls. Ughh. They're taking us to dinner at Mall of America, so I'll get a chance to check it out. I'll head down to First Ave tomorrow night. Sounds like a good bar scene.
I've lived here for three years. GET OUT!!!! Cost of living is though the roof and diversity is nonexistent (although Chris Rock is right, it's almost like they give all of us black guys a white girl with our luggage as soon as the plane lands). First Ave is OK but don't pigeonhole yourself there. That entire section of downtown is what Houston would like to be someday (numerous bars, lounges, and strip clubs). Head south to Canterbury Park and play a little Hold 'Em (can't smoke cigars there but you can drink) Head south to Mystic Lake Casino for a little BlackJack (can't drink there but you can smoke cigars) You gotta see the MoA simply because upon your return everyone is gonna ask you about it. Minnesota Wild hockey at Xcel Energy Center can't be topped. Nicest sports arena I've ever been to. Metrodome is a dud. Like the Astrodome only 5 times worst. Skip it and anything that plays or performs there. What do you enjoy doing? I could be a little more specific.
Yeah I know, and I'm not happy. Black guy at a hockey game? My daughter and I are on the JUMBOtron damn near every game that we attend (company seats). Other fans probably think that I'm some type of celeb. Go Gaborik!!!!
