He needs to shake off the stain of Yankees coaching before he can be effective.

$750,000 International Pool Money given in the Yankees will be the end for the Astros.

The Astros are built through Latin Prospects.

$15,000 for Jose Altuve from Venezuela

$10,000 each for Framber Valdez, Cristian Javier in 2015 from Dominican Republic

$20,000 for Teoscar Hernandez from Dominican Republic

$20,000 for Luis Garcia from Venezuela

    Caleb Ferguson replaced Rafael Montero.

Same results, didn't upgrade the Bullpen.

Caleb Ferguson and Rafael Montero pitched great in 2022.

Same type of year for 2024 both Ferguson and Montero giving up hits and runs.

Ferguson is way better than Montero is today. There's no way you even think about throwing Montero last night. Ferguson was really good until he shook off two pitches from YD. Stick to the plan, it usually works.

When are pitchers going to learn to stick to the plan?

What's up with relief pitchers shaking off pitches. Yanier just needs to beat the crap out of everyone.

The problem is that the pitcher is ultimately the one who gets roasted if he pitches poorly.

Because of this, its impossible to take away the decision making from him.

The Astros brought him in because they saw that they could improve him via pitch selection - and it was working.

Then he decided to punch himself in the dick.

The Astros can see things on film and target players all they want, if the player doesn't commit and buy in it won't matter.

As a FA they can interview and get a feel for the guy. They don't get that luxury in a trade.

He's Montero or Whitley 2.0 - thinks he knows better than the Astros, despite performance and all evidence showing the contrary.

Make him agree to never shake off the catcher or send him back to AAA. He'll, maybe send him there anyway.

But FTR- he was a terrible choice to pitch in that spot. I thought the Astros could not make a worst choice than trading for him - wrong again.

    He's pitched 2 2/3 innings with Houston...
    5 hits
    4 runs
    3 earned
    0 walks
    4 K's
    1 HR
    -1.0 WAR (for the season)

    Thanks Dana:rolleyes:

Someone needs to punch him in the face and I mean Ferguson. Tell him he sucks too much to be shaking off pitch calls, then send him down if he continues.

The lack of accountability and unity in the Astros organization is insane.

The only reason Diaz gets a pass is that he has basically been a big leaguer one full season - he needs to be more assertive and authoritative like Caratini and Maldonado. Guys like Ferguson do not get to call their own pitches. Espada needs to pull him aside and let him know that if it happens again, he can go to AAA. Ferguson obviously has an overinflated opinion of himself.

So far we have seen Montero get sent to AAA after a year of calling his own pitches and getting lit up. The Astros were somewhat limited because he could not be sent down, but the attitude of the Astros coaching staff appears to be one of "Well that is just what Montero does" .... he never should have pitched until he started relying on the pitch calling from the catcher.

Framber Valdez learned the hard way, guy added like a half a run to his era this year so far by calling his own pitches and throwing how he wants to. At least big dummy admitted he did it and stopped.

These are not recurring issues on well managed teams with established boundaries.

Further - what is with all of the roster space waste: I don't know why Cabbage is playing at all.... Jonathan Singleton is an absolute waste at first base, and this is after wasting at bats on Abreu.... if Chas McCormick isn't going to play, then they need to send him to AAA or they should have traded him at the deadline. They are on pace to give a utility player, Mauricio Dubon 500 at bats. It is ridiculous.

The choices made by the front office and the manager are all aimless - there is no larger reason for who plays and why. When someone struggles, whether they play comes down to the whims of the manager - with no stronger organizational philosophy.

Then if we still had Montero and not Ferguson, maybe Espada would have went with Scott last night and we would have won. Just sayin

Pitching him in high-leverage situations may not be the best way to ease him in?

    Another screwup by Espada.

Ferguson should be a low leverage guy.

I would rather see Ort in leverage situations over Ferguson if Ferguson isn't going to go along with the pitch sequencing plan that the Stros want him to throw.
