Get their feet wet for the last few weeks. Unless one of the guys going to Fayetteville goes nuts, that's probably where they're all starting in 2025 too.
The FCL season is over and outside of Jancel Villarroel who was already promoted, none of the position players showed all that well. C/1B Kedaur Trujillo had a decent season with an 11% bb rate and 15% k rate. The 4 big bonus international signees all struggled, as Camilo Diaz, Esmil Valencia, Luis Rives, and German Ramirez all posted below average production, with Diaz having a 41% k rate. 2023 HS draftee Anthony Huezo also posted a k rate over 40%. All 5 of those guys will likely have to start 2025 back in Florida.
Surprised Cerny got the move up. Guess they had to make room. He strikes out too much but has an intriguing skill set.
In 156 games in High A he had 26 HR and 48 SB. And all that was with a k rate around 35%. It’s **** or get off the pot time and most likely it won’t work out, but with a guy that talented you gotta give him 100-200 pa in AA to see if he can make good before you just cut him loose.
DSL Orange team threw a (7-inning) no-hitter... and lost 1-0 to the Padres' Gold team. The run scored on a sac fly. Jhoster Baez walked two and struck out seven in four innings. Eddy Mota threw two perfect innings, striking out three. Jeremy Martinez got the one out on the sac fly in the 7th; he hit the first man he faced. The second batter reached on an error and he walked the third. The fourth hitter hit the sac fly.
Yeah, if they call him up and he isn’t playing everyday it will only further Nook’s point in his thread about this organization being a mess.
Austin Deming was also moved up to Corpus. 24 and had a good-not-great year at Asheville, so he's just a guy. Quite a few releases have surfaced, none of whom were significant guys. IF Hector Nieves - 19th round pick in 2021 IF Rafael Ramirez - had a pretty good second year in the DSL last season but couldn't translate that in his US debut this year RHP Kasey Ford - undrafted free agent from Kansas State; decent performer but 26 in AA IF Jordan Brewer - 3rd round pick in 2019; big tools, could never stay healthy for them to manifest
Only reason to call him up unless there is an injury to Bregman/Pena. Unless they are releasing Singleton, you'd expect a platoon.
Brewer was a really exciting prospect when he was drafted. Couldn’t stay healthy or develop fast enough. C Victor Diaz (Yainer’s brother) was also released, as was former big bonus intl signee C Juan Santander. Santander had a really good start in Fayetteville but tanked pretty quickly and clearly didn’t have much of a defensive home or a redeeming offensive tool.
Ethan Pecko vs. Wichita: 5 IP, 3 H, 2 R (1 ER), 6 K The earned run was a solo homer. The unearned run came on a single in Manfredball.
Pecko’s k/bb ratio in Asheville was better than Bloss’s, Arrighetti’s, and Blubaugh’s. Pecko and James Hicks could be real prospects.
