I was watching the 100 m with some relatives and one of them was wondering why they aren’t just massive legs with small upper bodies. The human body to run that powerfully need to be balanced and likely they need both strong upper bodies to go with powerful lower bodies.

The big legs pure power era was a generation ago with tyson gay. I think the new science is more about how many steps you can turn over or how long a stride can be more than pure raw power. the long and lanky is the new meta.

That medal ceremony for the floor exercises with Biles and Chiles bowing for Andrade (Brazil) while facing each other was a really cool moment.

Germany women just set a WR in sprint track cycling, only to have New Zealand to break that and set a new WR in the next pass.

Edit: Next pass the Brits set the new WR. Its gotta be the track. Pretty wild.

There is a documentary about the race where Ben Johnson beat Carl Lewis. Ben Johnson mentioned he knew his lower body was strong enough to compete, but he knew he needed to get his upperbody stronger if he wanted to win.

There are all different kinds of body types out there, though most cynics (or are they realists?) will say steroids plays a part in some of these guys' physiques.

Look at Erriyon Knighton. He's not jacked (and is basically just a kid). He was recently cleared of a failed doping test when they ruled that it was probably due to eating contaminated meat containing the banned substance :

Then you have Yohan Blake ... who sometimes looks like he eats rocks for breakfast :

I don't know about walking for an hour... that seems like a hell of a walk, but :

    From here and here :

Newly released video footage shows Richardson and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce attempting to enter the track and field facility for warmup area hours before the 100-meter race. They had been denied access to enter a gate they had entered 24 hours before due to the overnight rule that was created by the Olympic organizers.

According to BroBible, “Any athlete who is not staying in the Village must enter into the warm-up track through a separate entrance.”

Both runners had to walk further down and enter through another gate once the confusion died down.

If Texas was a country, we would be 5th in total medals.
