At the time I remember being excited about acquiring Westbrook. In retrospect, I badly lament that we did not try to give it one more year of the CP3/Harden go. We should’ve kept Clint Capela and figured out a way to add Robert Covington to our core earlier than we did. That grouping of players was definitely and obviously super close to winning a title.
westbrook somehow keeps scamming these allstar level players to pick him up' russ has been washed for 4 years now, he was dallas 3rd best player in this past playoffs
Yeah, that phrasing annoyed me too. Having the third pick didn't "negate" not having the 12th pick. We could have had both but for this awful trade. Make all the arguments about how tight our rotation is, it still hurts to ship out a lottery pick for nothing.
The only thing that could have made the trade worse was going all in on the WOW-Factor team, ensuring we'd be tanking for a contender last year and onward. Then again, had we swapped #2 with #18 in 2021, there's a decent chance we come out with the better player.
Paul was having problems with Harden's demeanor and professionalism. Chris Paul was frustrated with Morey dumping Carmelo, wouldn't have worked either way. Paul not being totally happy was one reason why they did that trade. Also Tilman regretted giving that deal to Paul and Paul got wind of it. You just forgot.
I think pretty much everyone thought CP3 was done before that trade. He changed his entire lifestyle from eating habits to workouts & recovery and even sleeping. His revitalization was nothing short of incredible.
So much weird logic. I traded $100 for $10. I used the $10 to buy a lottery ticket and won $200. So the trade turned out to be a good trade.
Hamstring injuries take 18+ months to fully recover from, Alex Bregman had a similar experience when he tore his hamstring.
I think his point was more that the Rockets have done an excellent job of recovering from that mistake. But I agree. I suspect the Rockets would have taken Ke'lel Ware with the #12 pick this year, and wouldn't that have been nice?
This trade is not on Daryl Morey. Tilman Fertitta said ON THE RECORD that "my basketball ops guys got cold feet" but that he (Fertitta) pushed the trade through. Did Morey want to trade CP3 for Westbrook, in concept? Possibly. We may never know. But not for anything approaching the haul we gave up.
Even more reason to have traded him. Bregman was how old when he tore his? I actually don’t even remember Bregman’s injury. When was that?
But what if we didn’t do it? The chances are Harden would have revolted anyways. It was a bad trade, no doubt. But I think everyone felt desperate and it wasn’t because of Tilman, but rather Harden. I really can’t blame them for any of the decisions they made, including Ariza. 20/20 hindsight but we also assume other, better options were ever or would have ever been on the table.
I mean ultimately, that is what matters. Because what good is 5 (hypothetically) number 1 picks if they all bust. If at the end of the day, whatever you got panned out as a player, then it’s a win for the trade. Unless we would have been guaranteed to get someone better.
Tilman on the record already said that he pushed the trade through. So it was Tilmans final decision.
LTS pulled in clutch for the Rockets org in the 2020s. Luxury Tax Savings is the Rockets’ Franchise Player
No. being lucky later does not negate a dumb act earlier. You could still have been lucky without the dumb act and got more than lucky.
