If he proves to be a SP2 and helps lead to another ring I would give him 3 yrs 36 mil.

Unless he's terrible the rest of the season then no.

Didn't he sign for 3 yrs, 36 mil back in 2022? Now he is 3 years older, but will demand more money?

If his strikeout numbers keep going up, and the Astros optimizing his changeup improves his overall effectiveness, yes.. he will (more in the $$/year… not necessarily total years). Quality pitching still valuable.

In this case, every pitcher needs to just sign 1 year deals with the Astros

Can he take our pitching coaches with him to the new team?

The organization can't revoke all the information they gave him when he leaves. Charlie Morton and Gerritt Cole got better here , got paid elsewhere and were just fine

A 33 year old with his track record shouldn't get more than a 3 year deal.

It's more about the length of the deal than the money.

Has this guy had anywhere near the success that LMJ has had.

He will definitely get more than $12M but don’t think it’s going to be something crazy unreasonable even if he performs really well for us. I’d guess something around 3/$50M would get it done, maybe a little more depending on his performance. I’d be OK with that too.

Paraphrase: Dana Brown thought it would be obvious as to which trade piece was most valuable between the 3,… but non-stop questions about Joey forced him to have to explain it fully that this team does not see him as anything more than a Jake Marisnick type with slightly lesser defense.

Its not only amazing that Morton still pitching… but that he has had more extended or effective healthier runs than each of the following: JV, LMJ, Cole, Javier, Garcia, Urquidy, Greinke.

In 2018 Luhnow and the organization figured he’d retire. He was tearful at end of season interviews as to how it could be the end of his baseball career after that tough season.

If he does get 3/50, I sincerely hope it is not from the Astros.

We need someone else at 1B, I am ok with the trade in general....but we can't have a .233 hitter there every day.

Spencer with 12 K’s… and the C- team bullpen guys held them scoreless and provided rest for the B and A guys.

Only positives one can take away. Need Jake to get back to .800 OPS Jake. Chas has to hit lefties. Pena needs more rest. Altuve needs more rest. Yordan needs more rest (but can’t really afford any of those last 3).

Yandy Diaz could have been gotten for Hunter Brown though…

Well more than one GM thought Jake Meyers would be more than just defense.

Most people recognized that Bloss (and how his career pans out) will always be the true x-factor in this trade. Loperfido obviously has to cut down on his K's. Doesn't mean he can't get hot though... just look at what Pena did in the 2022 playoffs.
