I would agree he probably wouldn't be a starter on one if we are defining contender as one of the top 5 teams to win a ring.
But even then, it would depend on who the other 4 starters around him are. There are 5th best starters on very good teams with less game than Dillon.

I very much doubt that, a lot of teams he wouldn’t even crack the rotation. People really underestimate how much he murders your offense

He did his job and helped us change the culture. Everything Brook brought early in the year, Amen did better as a starter with the exception of 3 pt %. Since Brooks only took 3 a game, Amen’s better and more flexible defense, ball handling, passing and tremendously better rebounding out weigh Brooks 35% shooting on 3 attempts. Brooks also is a foul machine. I do think he is tradeable to a contender at the deadline. I wish it was sooner, because I think Amen getting 30+ minutes a game gives us the best chance at improving enough to make the playoffs. Brooks contract is fair and he definitely could help a contender off the bench. Sorry to bring Amen into the discussion, but Amen, Tari, and Cam are very Germaine to any discussion of Brooks value. Even as a bench player on our team, he will hurt our progression as a team, not because he is not a good player, but because he only plays one position and we have at least 2 that play it better.

If he were on a better team, he wouldn't be asked for as much offense and would take fewer shots. So his damage would be less or minimal. But the Rockets needed a shooter and he was needed to take a more offensive role than his skills merit out of necessity.

So what will he do? He can’t pass, can’t shoot, can’t dribble, can’t play in the dunker spot.

He is a good onball/man to man defender that can give you a couple 3's.

He’s an ok defender ya in some situations. He also fouls a ton which kills his defensive value and is a HORRIBLE rebounder, which hurts his defensive value. His shooting is bad and he doesn’t get guarded, doesn’t matter if he can make one or two

Play defense and hit an occasional wide open 3. He should be a good backup SF, just not here.

Ya i agree, he’s a good who some games should play 0 minutes, some 20 minutes if there’s a specific matchup for him. If he was making the minimum i think he would be decently valuable. However he has like 3 years over 60 mil left, i dont think any team will take him without the rockets adding assets (though it only takes one sucker, as we saw last offseason)

Jock Landale is our franchise player. I'd take him over KD or Giannis because NUMBERS DO NOT LIE!

Makes sense, Jokic has been playing worse ball than with Denver.... but you could expect that because that is another squad he has not been part of in over a year.

Srbija has Top 3 FIBA talent but they have not been able to put that on display early on.

Germany or Canada for Silver medal.....as it stands now due to them being in top shape.

Dillon Brooks is like our new school Ron Artest. It's just that he's more annoying than crazy. But still bugs the hell out of opposing teams when we play them. Like someone mentioned, all you should expect from him is dogged defense and some occasional threes.

For Olympic ball, you can argue that labdale is a top 5 player in the world

2024 Rockets with Brooks, 115.5 offense rating, 114.4 without
2023 Grizzlies with Brooks, 115.3 offense rating, 116.6 without
2022 Grizzlies with Brooks, 119.4 offense rating, 114.4 without
2021 Grizzlies with Brooks, 116.0 offense rating, 109.2 without

I've always found it fascinating that fans can speak so certainly about players who mostly played on other teams like they're experts on them. I can't imagine you would've watched intently 40+ Grizzlies games for the past several seasons to be absolutely certain that Brooks always murders his team's offense.

I have always said Brooks was a decent overall player but not that great.

The funny thing is from a team results standpoints (points scored/points given up when he's on the court), Brooks' defense is overrated while his offense is underrated. His impact in both areas is fairly close to average. Which is essentially makes him a low-end starter/high end backup depending on how good his team is.

I can see that, the gripe is almost majority of NBA players are more defensively challenged and have a good Offense.

But now it is changing that more young players focus on 2 way skillsets in the last drafts.

Brooks is never going to be featured as a 3rd option on a good team, he is just not trustworthy enough.

The Core 7 is easily more talented than him.
