As Vice President Harris weighs her choice for running mate, House Democrats are increasingly advocating for a former colleague: Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz. First elected to Congress in 2006, Walz served in the House for 12 years and rose to become the top Democrat on the powerful Veterans Affairs Committee before heading home in 2019 to lead the North Star State. “My sentimental favorite is Tim Walz,” said Rep. Jim McGovern (Mass.), the top Democrat on the powerful Rules Committee. “He was a great member of Congress. The people I know in Minnesota tell me he’s a great governor. … But more importantly, he’s a good guy. He’s down to earth, he’s the real deal, there’s nothing phony about him, and he calls ‘em as he sees ‘em, and he tells it like it is, and I appreciate the candor.” Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.), head of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, also singled out Walz as a particularly appealing vice presidential pick. She pointed to Walz’s track record backing labor unions and working families as a key reason for her support. “I want somebody who’s really strongly pro-labor and understands labor, because this is a big part of the working-class agenda and making sure that we win working-class votes,” Jayapal said. “I want somebody who is totally committed to the agenda that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris fought for. … And then I think it should be somebody who’s really good in some of our Midwestern states. So making sure that we win Wisconsin, Ohio — some of those places. And so that kind of brings me to — I really like Gov. Walz,” she continued. “I like the things that he’s been able to do. I like that he’s from a rural town; I like that he’s got a military background. “So he would be a great choice.” Even former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) appears to be leaning in Walz’s favor. A source familiar with the California Democrat’s thinking told The Hill she “is always especially fond of former House colleagues” when asked about Harris’s running mate, a nod to Walz.
A column resurfaced Friday from Josh Shapiro’s college days showed he once wrote about volunteering for the Israeli military. The column was resurfaced by the Philadelphia Inquirer, which uncovered a 1993 opinion article where Shapiro detailed his skepticism about the viability of a two-state solution in the Middle East. In it, Shapiro described Palestinians as “too battle-minded” to coexist with Israel. The article was published shortly after the first Oslo Accord was signed and outlined a potential pathway to end conflict in the region. “Despite my skepticism, as a Jew and a past volunteer in the Israeli army, I strongly hope and pray that this ‘peace plan’ will be successful,” Shapiro wrote. The Pennsylvania governor has since changed his views, now actively advocating for a two-state solution, but his supposed military service—and further details about where and how long he served—was unreported before Friday. Shapiro’s column was published when he was a 20-year-old student at the University of Rochester, three decades ago, but may weigh heavy as he’s vetted as a potential VP pick for Kamala Harris. Manuel Bonder, a Shapiro spokesperson later confirmed with the Daily Beast that “at no time was he engaged in any military activities.” Bonder said: “While he was in high school, Josh Shapiro was required to do a service project, which he and several classmates completed through a program that took them to a kibbutz in Israel where he worked on a farm and at a fishery. The program also included volunteering on service projects on an Israeli army base. At no time was he engaged in any military activities.”
A one-time aide to Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro left a woman "weeping and in shock" after threatening her on a phone call in 2018, according to an email the woman sent to state lawmakers in 2023, five years after the alleged conversation. The former aide, Mike Vereb, allegedly invoked Shapiro's name on the call, telling the woman that "by the time he and Josh were done with me, I would be worse than nothing," said the woman, who requested that her name not be published, in an interview with ABC News. "You are going to continue to be nothing by the time Josh and I get done with you," the woman quoted Vereb as saying, telling ABC News that she was left "shaken" by the way in which Vereb "freely" referenced others in power. "Obviously part of what left me shaken was not just Mr. Vereb's aggressive and unrelenting tone, but how freely he made it seem he was speaking beyond himself," she said. News of the alleged 2018 incident, which has not been previously reported, comes as Shapiro emerges as a leading contender to become Vice President Kamala Harris' presidential running mate on the Democratic ticket. There is no evidence that Shapiro, who was at the time Pennsylvania's state attorney general, was aware of Vereb's allegedly threatening call. The 2018 incident marks the second allegation of wrongdoing against Vereb -- who was once one of Shapiro's closest aides. After bringing him to the governor's office in early 2023, the Shapiro administration settled an unrelated sexual harassment complaint against Vereb last September for nearly $300,000, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. Weeks later, Vereb resigned.
two weeks ago, she wasn't even a candidate and her job was to support Biden's policies, not come up with her own. At least let her get to the convention.
Should be noted that Lockdowns did not restrict people's freedom of movement but rather their ability to gather in large groups. People weren't barred from moving around or traveling. Some cities had curfews. But it was really about large gathers. The people who were arrested were due to other reason - not just being outside. Being positive for COVID and large public gatherings are what they were trying to do to buy time in researching and developing new treatments. Curfews I agree were extreme though. Additionally, social media platforms were not censored. During a public health emergency, the gov't can advise companies that the content on their platform may be causing harm to people. And that company is free to self-censor. Vaccine mandates were for critical works such as hospital workers, pilots, and other occupations where a pandemic may cost lives. No one was every legally required to get one in this country outside the few fields they need Mask on babies was stupid.

These colonial rome slave candidates are just pacifying their colonial dulocracy subjects and re-taking them back to the burning/slaughter-house......perpetual Hopefully this recycled scripted political show will finally showcase and hype up the other 3 race color codes (red/brown/yellow) since I Am pretty sure we will be hearing the slave name marks of commerce (black/white) for the next odd number of days nonstop..... Trump was shot by a 20 yr old that was allegedly in a Blackrock commercial last year....... Crisis actors run amock Like FDR said, nothing happens in politics by accident, it was planned that way (paraphrase)
They didn't go down in the mud; they just went straight for the face. Trump is a felon and sexual abuser. He and his team are extreme, and they are freaking weird. Keep it up and make sure to never go into the mud (outright lies, unethical, incendiary rhetoric, derogatory silly name calling, and violence, ).
It is but just one poll, but that's interesting and a bit of a shock TBH. They usually have a 1-2 pt bias toward Republican.
I would like to see Tim Walz as VP but I really hope stuff like this doesn’t doom Shapiro. Many American Jews have lived in Israel And given the nature of Israel have had military training there. Shapiro was expressing a pretty widespread opinion about the Oslo peace accords. Hope mixed with caution. I wouldn’t hold it against him given his current views that there should be a two state solution.
Is there a two state solution that gives Palestinians a continuous state that isn't sperated and surrounded by Israel because then I have a feeling Palestinian will be terminally be controlled by their oppressors in terms of things like freedom of movement in the region. That is one of the biggest flaws of the two state solution. Why can't we go the South Africa model? Have we been conditioned to believe Palestinians are genocidal maniacs that can't be a plurality?
