In the United States of America, I don’t recall any 'leftish' president attempting a coup, watching an attack on Congress for hours without taking action, and then being nominated again by the 'leftish' party. If that were the case, I would be firmly opposed to the 'leftist' party. My motto is straightforward: if I flirt with authoritarian power because it aligns with my values, I'll eventually regret it when I want to distance myself from a leader who has shifted his stance and principles. That day will come, as concentrated, unchecked power almost always corrupts.
Firstly, in hindsight, that was not an attempted coup. Secondly, when I talk about "authoritarian", I think about things like lockdowns (restricting people's freedom of movement), vaccine mandates (forcing an invasive health intervention), forcing masks on toddlers, heavily censoring social media to conform with "the ministry of truth". Those are all expressions of authoritarianism which actually happened.
What's that have to do with a black woman? I'm not a right winger. I disagree with right wing viewpoints, unlike you.
I don't want to rehash January 6 too much in this thread, but Trump's overall campaign to alter votes and change the electoral college was the coup attempt. The riot at the Capitol might've been a helpful coincidence, but it wasn't the core of the plot. Coup: a sudden, violent, and unlawful seizure of power from a government. Trump's efforts to overturn the electoral college vote, from trying to change vote totals in Georgia to creating fake electors and election certificates to send to Congress, were both "sudden" and "unlawful".
Jan 6 is definitely relevant as well. It was Trump's Plan B to create a grey area by preventing Mike Pence from certifying the election results. And as a result creating a potential constitutional crisis where the Supreme Court makes the final decision. I mean, considering Trump lost the election, it was his last ditch attempt. Sad!
More MAGA should move to Russia and North Korea. They like that type of government. Also revoke their American passports.
I don't expect a lot of difference between Biden. In reality, Democrats have their hands tied with congress (especially the house) preventing much action. If it wasn't Trump, I'm fine with a Republican. I dont think cutting taxes for the wealthy is benefiting the country (other than the wealthy) but at this point, I can't help the masses if they don't realize that the reason they are struggling is because they gave all their wealth away to the rich. I don't like the culture wars stuff by the right. I just think people should be left alone to make the decisions they feel are best for themselves and their families. Government should stay out of people lives and not dictate abortions or gender care. No transgenders in sports. Fine. But otherwise let people live in peace.
Still doing the hard work of trying to educate the ignorant?!?! Good on ya. I opted for the easier route.... the ignore list. When you ignore the idiots, bigots and neo-nazi sympathizers (and those that are all 3) the BBS is a much cleaner experience.
I cant believe all the - BUT SHE'S NOT BLACK! - pee-pee games I am seeing from WHITE Trump supporters. Lulz. The **** are yall going on about? Grow up.
I appreciate the sincere post, even if we disagree. It's hard to even tell what Kamala really stands for, which is concerning in itself, but from her public statements and voting record, she seems significantly further left than pre-dementia Biden, and I don't like that. I'll also say that while I don't have a vote yet, I pay my taxes here and I believe I'll be based in the US likely for as long as I live (I mean, my kids pledge allegiance to the flag every day without really understanding what it means lol, my son has already spent more than half of his young life in the US and doesn't even speak German), and I am at this point more interested in US politics than in German politics (Germany/the EU seems like a more lost cause to me, in many ways).
Same. I'm socially liberal but don't agree with many "far left" fiscal policies. I'm moderate in that sense, or a moderate leaning left (socially) that believes "if you're not hurting anyone, you're free to do whatever you want" I would also probably benefit from "Republican tax breaks." My income is probably in the top 10% but it seems disingenuous when the top 1% received 80% of the Trump tax breaks. And the fact Trump's tax breaks to citizens will expire while tax breaks to corporations won't. It's like they're feeding on steaks and they toss you a bone, expecting you to be happy with that. People like Trump truly believe you're beneath people like him (and his actions show). See: "black jobs" and think what state of mind a phrase like that comes from. If Trump was on the Democrat ticket, I would vote Republican, simple as that. If Republicans put forward a better candidate I would consider voting Republican or Democrat. Too bad Republicans allowed MAGA to hijack their party
