She was literally born a female.

How many open trans people do you know from rural communities in Algeria? She literally had to go against her father because he didn't believe girls should do these type of sports.

Man to be this poor girl. Born a female in a Islamic oppressive society where she had to fight with her father because he believes women shouldn't box, make the Olympics and now be called a man.

Many of the world class women athletes look like athletic men because they’re world class athletes. I don’t think this is a transgender athlete masquerading here.

We've seen this a lot lately where right wing bigots are falsely accusing biological girls/women of being boys/men because they don't like the results of the competition and think the girls are too masculine looking (typically due to their respective sports training)

    https://slate.com/culture/2024/08/olympic-boxers-gender-test-controversy-explained.html

They’ve both been cleared to compete in the Olympics, and anti-trans activists are furious—even though the women aren’t trans.

Imane Khelif of Algeria and Lin Yu-ting of Taiwan—neither of whom is transgender—competed in the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 and have won medals at previous world boxing tournaments. But last year, the International Boxing Association, the governing body for the sport, disqualified Khelif and Lin during the tournament. According to an IOC database, Khelif was removed from the 2023 championships just hours before she was set to compete for the gold medal because “her elevated levels of testosterone failed to meet the eligibility criteria.” Lin competed, and even won the bronze in the tournament, but the IBA took it back after she was found ineligible, “based on the results of a biochemical test” that likely found high testosterone levels or chromosomal variance.

The bottom line is that Khelif and Lin are both women who meet the IOC’s standards for competition in the women’s category. There is no reason why they shouldn’t compete. But right-leaning media outlets and advocates who oppose trans inclusion in sports have latched on to the IBA’s disqualification to smear Khelif and Lin as gender frauds out to cheat their way to Olympic medals. The fact that, according to all public accounts, neither Khelif nor Lin is transgender has not stopped anti-trans journalists and activists from calling the boxers men or biological males and referring to them with the pronouns he and him.

thank you for that. lot's of detail to process, but I think the relevant part is at the end: these individuals deserve compassion, but they should not be competing with XX/Women.

perhaps the solution, is the introduction of a third category of competition: Women, Men, and Open, in which anyone could compete, ie trans, XY-DSD, while the female category is reserved for XX females.

The only time these boxers have been accused of having DSD is by Russia. And yet Russia refused to provide any evidence or tests results as proof.
But..I realize that you guys are putting a lot of trust in what Russia says these days.

I haven’t followed this story or the athletes this closely but from what I’ve read is they aren’t transgendered in that they changed genders. It’s also not clear if she was physically much stronger or her musculature was much different than women in her weight class.

This seems similar to the case of South African runner Castor Semeya who was born with a mix of some male and female traits. The solution in her case was to take hormone blockers and reduce the amount of testosterone in her body. I don’t know if this was the case for the Algerian boxer.
