Because perhaps it IS revolutionary? If a hardcore country fan believes country is revolutionary, they have every right to project that belief too. Music is part performance/part promotion It'd be like MMA fans claiming its revolutionary, and baseball fan saying "We never promoted Ted Williams as 'revolutionary' " Its a nice show of humility. Though claims of being revolutionary isnt really a bad thing. I'm not a fan of dubstep music. Though if over the next 20 years it dominates the music charts, why should dubstep producers stop themselves of making any claims of its influence?
Its ironic, current hip hop music is finally the way I'd like it to sound And I don't give much crap about it. All the people who always wanted "alternatives" or "I don't listen to the radio", they got their wish. Now music is too fragmented to follow. I was part of that "progressive" movement. But I'll admit hip hop was easier to follow in the video tv station days when it was a little more concentrated. Though Houston's never relied much on mainstream or tv in the first place.
RIP Chino XL, one of the best to ever due and not get the recognition for it. Father to Eminem's style.
Believe it or not, Ripley... I still remember all the lyrics to this song, pretty sure it was 5th grade, we sang it quite a bit in the back of the sports bus
Dude, this was forwarded to me the other day, and I was thinking this was some Indian dude in America doing hiphop. Then I found out he's overseas, and I was intrigued. lol. Apparently he grew up in Texas, and he gives credit to Project Pat and Bun B as being big influences, so I'm guessing maybe he spent some time growing up in the Houston area? Not sure, but he's back in India now, I guess. I watched an interview that said he wrote the song in 20 minutes and it blew up when Project Pat and DJ Paul blew it up on IG or something. Big Dawgs is one of those songs where whoever came up with that beat hit it and the lyrics match it. That part from 0:20-0:40 had me rewinding and playing over multiple times. He has a bit of Li'l Wayne/Drake sound in there somewhere.
Yeah, with the screwed sound. The driving is also Houston. Now I have the urge to dig up some Memphis/Houston beats from yesteryear. I haven't listened to 8Ball & MJG, UGK, etc. in forever. lol.
I posted that video in the 'what are you listening thread', at that time, the video only had 600k views. Its got over 6mil now. He was an oil baby that moved across the globe with his dads job in oil. He grew up in Houston from 4th grade til college. I was hoping somebody would know him on here. Hes signed to Def Jam India and is huge there.
