Well. That wasn't a very good outcome. Unfortunate. But at least it didn't get any worse! The trade yesterday is a disaster with nothing meaningful following it. That's an extremely expensive rental for most likely very little gain. Dana Brown **** the bed big time in the way this all played out.
We could have added every top player available and it still would only have moderately improved our chances. No need to pile extra overpays on top of the one you already made. The new playoff format means too many buyers and not enough sellers, I think meh trade deadlines are gonna become the norm moving forward.
Has Bill O'Brien been making the trades for the Astros since Dana Brown was hired? So many top prospects traded away.
We have one of the weaker farm systems, not sure if we could have done better? Maybe Pedro Leon is the bat we need.
I said I may stop watching this summer if another trade is not made. Not sure yet if the Yankee trade counts. All I know is it's time to change the avatar
2019 Nationals 2016 Cardinals 2023 Rangers 1990 Reds fans unite!!! This stuff happens so often in baseball…we need to get healthy, and every addition today will look small in comparison. The trade market doesn’t have anything as interesting as our injured list does
especially ones where sellers become buyers (Cubs) while other teams (Rangers) are just confused as to who they should be. I also think people don't realize that there's still a ton of baseball left. There's more months left in the season than the time the Astros were god-awful to start... meaning (if last night's game is hopefully not a window), there is actually time for Pressly to regress, Hader to regress, Abreu to get fatigued, Bregman to go back to sucking, etc. etc. hopefully that won't all happen, but when your team isn't coasting with a 10 game lead... its a stark reminder of how long and winding the baseball season tends to always be.
Again, I might be in the minority but after yesterday’s trade, I am glad we’re staying put. Very hard to trust Dana and the FO to do anything right at this point.
LOL The Nationals appear to have over played their hand and had to dump Florio at the last minute.... They had strong offers for him they passed up.
On the flip side, they still had lead stories, twitter activity, and people actively following a dud of a trade deadline... at a time of the year where there's usually not much else going on sports-wise... and this year they held their own vs the Olympics. I think baseball is happy with what the expanded playoffs has done to the once top-heavy trade deadline.
Not a single impact bat got traded. Arozarena is solid, but hardly some massive upgrade. Fans are mad we didn't acquire this awesome hitter that doesn't exist. I wish we hadn't overpaid for Kikuchi, and I'm glad we didn't overpay for an ever so slight offensive improvement.
I keep reading this. I am not claiming Dana Brown is Jerry West at making trades......... but did you look at the cost the Orioles paid for their starters? The Dodgers paid a heavy cost for Flaherty as well, a better prospect for a rental than any that the Astros have in their system... The Braves didn't even get a starter when they needed one. The cost this deadline for a starter that can possibly pitch in the post season for a team was massive.
You can hang onto the fact that they havent done anything in years, but the fact remains, dipoto is active and always searching. He trades early and gets his team needs filled. You cant blame him for not trying. If we had traded for Randy or anybody else, Browns reputation would be a lot different than it is currently.
People tuned in this year - but not so sure they will next year. They could likely keep the playoff structure and find away to increase activity.
