I just think if you are going to overpay, and we did, for a SP to the extent we did, you should be making every single effort you can to win this year. Would suck to give up Bloss, Loper and Wagner and not win it
The Dominican first baseman the Tigers got is roughly a top 50 prospect type player.... considered a future home run and doubles hitter.... a lot of people like him even though he doesn't have big numbers this year. The other guy is a former top draft pick that is in AAA and is expected to be an MLB starter possibly.
That’s baseball. Ask the Los Angeles Dodgers if that’s not what it is. They’ll add more than any one of these teams did when Garcia, Tucker and Verlander are back
If looking at things from a zero-sum standpoint... they apparently didn't need more prospects to replace what they lost (possibly even upgraded) and are in much better position to win it all this year. They also get to "claim" a CYA for their franchise. Seems like they've been buying a ton at every deadline or off-season for the last 5 years? Maybe they just had too many prospects, lol.
In all seriousness - baseball needs to do something because across the board, this was the worst trade deadline in at least two decades. Who was the best player traded? Randy Arazrena like 2-3 days ago?
The Bregman walkoff was Saturday night and that was the best win of the year and was giving everybody all the feels. And just like that, its over?
Yay....we traded 3 prospects we all like for a pretty crappy rental starting pitcher, and we added on a reliever from the trash heap.
