Giving Leon $4M leaves ~$1.3M. I assume that’ll be distributed over 3-4 2nd and 3rd tier intl signees but I wonder if there is any chance of them getting Colas or another big name for $1.3M.
Warmly welcome the new #4! [/URL] LOL Also from the comments... “Why is he signing on a casket.” “Thought it was a coffin.” “Looks like a casket.”
Good info there. I recall some others saying there were conflicting reports as to whether the arm was elite or below average. The fact they see him as a centerfielder would also explain why things seemed hot and then went quiet with Jackie Bradley Jr - sounds like they'd want a short term bridge who can keep it warm for Leon.
I'm not sure Astros were ever hot on JBJ, but he would be a good fit in my opinion. Though, I see him more as a good 1-2 year contract with maybe a club option. Defense is his calling card and that can go south in a hurry. He would fit the bridge mold provided other teams aren't making unreasonable offers or Leon needs a bridge shorter than 1-2 years.
Completely sucked for first 4-5 games. Last 4-5 games have been great (low BA, but getting on base and hitting for pop), but not great enough to wash out how bad his first 4-5 games were.
Started out horribly, putting himself in a big hole with strikeouts. But he has had a decent stretch over the last week and is walking and hitting for power.
So is he playing SS to develop his versatility or do we really think he's a potential big league infielder?
Thought I'd bump this thread for some positive thoughts (Lord knows we need it) on Pedro Leon finally getting his chance with Stros.
I realize he only has 1 hit and only played 2 games but I am really liking what I see. He plays with energy and his tools are obvious. His throws are noticeably in a different league than the other outfielders. When he got thrown out at second, the ball took a perfect bounce to the outfielder and it still took a perfect throw to get him. And his swim move still almost got him in there eventhough the throw beat him. I love the agressiveness in that spot. He stole 2nd base vs a LHP and it wasn't close. Still only 2 games but I love what I'm seeing.
I like what I see, give the young man sometime in the lineup and let's get a bigger sample size, the kid has some juice
The only knock on him was his strikeout which he addressed this season. At the very least he's a plus defender with an average bat and a plus plus arm.
But it's more than that. Watching him, the plays he's involved in just stand out. It reminds me of when Correa and Alvarez came up. He looks like the part the way guys like Cabbage and Hummel never did.
