I honestly feel bad for him. He's coming into a real tough situation with the fanbase. Because our front office are morons...

Man seeing how inept our front office is now makes allowing dusty to throw away last season sting even more. Blah

So the highest ranking players from what was almost universally panned as the worst farm system (trying to remain calm (and carry on...)).

Goodness, I hope he has some massive hits from the last two drafts...

He'll be really meh. I mean, he's not a bad pitcher. He's not a really good one either. We basically gave up a lot of talent for a 2 month rental of a back of the rotation major league caliber starting pitcher. Hurray!

Each will provide far more value than Kikuchi this year and the next, and the next, and the next, and the next, and the next, and the next.

Astros lost *two* 1st Round picks from the trashcan penalty.

Astros lost two more draftees by re-acquiring JV's selfish, injured a** from the Mets.

Astros threw away more picks/youngsters acquiring Kikuchi's subpar a**.

Astros are *still* paying Montero and Jabreu.

Luhnow built this team so well that after ALL THAT foolishness, and despite the slow deterioration, we're still in contention.

BTW... Crane fired Luhnow -- plus, Dusty gave away a championship to Dallass

    SMH

The Astros have been in regression ever since Luhnow exited, and it's mostly due to Crane's ego.

The deadline is not behind us. Dana has another day to lay waste to the system.

    I don’t think so.

That was my initial reaction until I looked at the starting pitchers on the market and the teams that still need pitching.

Also I looked at the White Sox deal earlier.

Right now there are 10 teams aggressively looking for a starting pitcher and all expect to get one.

Those teams are Orioles, Yankees, Dodgers, Red Sox, Atlanta, Mets, Padres, Cardinals, Guardians and Brewers.

At least 8 of those teams have better known/developed prospects than the Astros.

The starting pitchers actually on the market are very limited.

Jameson Tailon, Frankie Montas, Jack Flaherty, Yusei Kakuchi, Eric Fedde, Zac Eflin and Cal Quantrill are the actual pitchers on the market.

Toronto has told teams Gausman and Bassett will not be dealt. The Giants are telling teams they do not expect to trade Snell unless they get a massive offer. The Tigers are not expected to trade Skubul. The White Sox will likely deal Crochet this Winter.

The market COULD have opened up if the Rangers and Blue Jays opened up and dealt Gausman, Bassitt, Scherzer etc.

Instead you have 7 or so starters that can possibly pitch for you in the post season…. Fedde went to St. Louis for a very good player and the Sox also got better prospects than the Astros gave up. Vargas is way better.

The Orioles got Eflin - and their farm system is the deepest in baseball.

Frankie Montas isn’t as good as Kikuchi and likely doesn’t pitch in the post season.

Quantrill isn’t as good as Kikuchi either.

That leaves Jameson Tailon and Jack Flaherty… both are players the Astros tried to get…. The teams competing for those two include NYY, BOS, ATL, SD, NYM, MIL and CLV.

So - when you really look at it, it isn’t shocking what we paid. I don’t like it, but when you consider NY, LA and ATL were all trying to trade for Kikuchi today, it isn’t isn’t surprising in hindsight.

Melton, Baez, Matthews, Dezenzo, Blubaugh, Tredwell, Ullola, Santa, Brito and so many others are still in the system.

Thanks for this. I’ve been working my ass off all day and only now reading any commentary on this deal. Still won’t understand why a guy named McMahon isn’t on the roster but whatevs ;)

I don't hate the trade. Kikuchi is solid and our prospects aren't good.

Brown panicked and traded away ~$60M worth of young players for ~$15M in surplus value for a rental SP. Maybe not the end of the world but doesn’t take too many deals like that to end up in the shitter.

Brown must feel confident that the 3 guys we traded won't be able to make it.

His peripherals look a lot better than his raw numbers, but still the price looks steep as hell right now.

I swear if Dana Brown even thinks about trading away our 18-21 year old prospects, plus Matthews, Dezenzo.

Dana Brown will get a complaint in the Complaint Box. Just a Horrible way to ruin Astros Fans Day.

Trey Cabbage, Chas McCormick are more important than Loperfido is Lunacy.
Cabbage is a mistake trade, traded away a Young Pitcher.
