Man **** Crane. He has been a horrible owner since 2019. Jerry Jones-ish type owner. Hope astros win many more rings but I wont spend thousands of dollars every year for this type of crap.
Jim Crane didn't veto this trade must mean he doesn't know anything about talent, it is Very Alarming. Jim Crane Fired AJ Hinch and Jeff Luhnow. The whole Front Office left after that. Sig Mejdal, Mike Elias left, Kris Gross left this year. This years Draft looks Terrible.
The 33-year-old is 2-5 with a 6.87 ERA over his last 12 outings. ESPN not putting the Astros trade on the front page because it is so bad. Watch this guy sign with the Mariners in 2025.
Dana: (Seems like a pretty high price. Was that the price?) Market right now is such. A lot of these guys have high price tags. In order to get a ML starter, you have to give up players that hurt. End of the day, we’re trying to stabilize our rotation so we can get back to the postseason and potentially deep in the postseason. We see Kikuchi as a guy who can really strike guys out, a guy who can log some innings for us and can pitch in the postseason with the power that he brings. We feel this could be a pretty good addition to get down the stretch. There were pretty good arms coming off the board. You don’t want to get caught not doing anything to help the major league team. The later it gets, sometimes the higher the price can get. We felt it was pricey because we really like Bloss, Loperfido, Wagner but ultimately we felt this was the way to go. Get a power arm in your rotation that can pitch in the postseason. We’re still grinding through it. Whether it’s another bullpen piece, maybe a bat if we could. The main priority was the starter. Our rotation is beat up. We have 7 starters on the IL. That was the main priority. We are still grinding through phone calls and trying to get things done. (His last couple starts not very good) He features power with his fastball. Our guys have done a great job with pitching in this organization. We’ve been able to make some tweaks. We can really get this guy to a point where he can maintain dominance with that fastball. … He’s probably gonna travel tomorrow. If he gets here tomorrow, maybe suit up on Wednesday or something like that. Goal is get him here as soon as we could. Discussions tonight about filling Loperfido’s spot. (Organizational depth) Having 2 drafts under our belt, we feel we’ll continue to add players. My strength in the past has been through drafts. We feel like we’ll be able to replenish but it’s always painful to give up players and even more painful when you love the human being. It’s difficult to make these trades but we have to stay focused on getting back to the postseason. (Engaging Toronto) We engaged early on. We started to rank the top starters available and got going. Conversations definitely more than a week, definitely more than 10 days. We had those names and targets and we started calling each team trying to get something done. It’s a lot of back and forth before you can get a deal done like this. We started longer than a week ago. We think this makes our rotation stronger and gives us a chance to win more games. (His bullpen experience) Our focus was to get a starter and we’re getting a starter that could strike guys out and feel we can make some tweaks and get him turned around. Whole focus was a starter. Not one time did we talk about him pitching out of the pen. Price tag for controllable starters is high, you’re looking at giving up even more of your farm. We weren’t getting engaged on conversations where we were giving up too much. We felt like we gave up enough to get who we wanted. We didn’t want to go any deeper in giving up more top end prospects.
In 2 years Dana Brown has traded Drew Gilbert, Ryan Clifford, Korey Lee, Jake Bloss, Joey Loperfido and Will Wagner for JV, Kendall Graveman (both on IL) and Yusei Kikuchi
I get it… he has elite stuff (he really does) and his FIP is only like 3.60 …. But they couldn’t even squeeze out another leverage reliever in the deal? They couldn’t even get a Chad Green ?? Making it even worse, the guy the Astros almost signed as a FA Cuban is now in the Jays rotation and having success. It’s very possible that Murphy and Miller saw Bloss and decided he just isn’t good enough - and maybe the hole in Loperfido’s swing is too big and the Astros saw that up close… but other teams didn’t know that. I’m not sure what Miller and Murphy believe they can unlock after a half decade, but they better be right and Crane better extend him.
There are only two possible explanations that make this trade make sense: 1) Dana Brown is secretly on the Toronto payroll, or 2) The MLB Commissioner has directed Brown to destroy the Astros from within so that they are never competitive again.
Why doesn't he just say it? He panicked. It's just that simple. "There were arms coming off the board. "You don’t want to get caught not doing anything." I mean. ****. How else can you interpret that?! It's EXACTLY what I was afraid they might do.
Yes it is. I just hope they can work some magic on him. Then if they do that , I hope they can resign him.
Crazy to think other Prospects have even more pressure to perform like Loperfido in the Outfield. Dana Brown needs to be Removed, Thanks for Brice Matthews. But no more GM Decisions.
From the post game interview you can tell Brown values pitchers with power above all else. It also explains why the joke that is Coleman is still on the AAA roster when we needed roster spaces.
