If we got a starting pitcher number 2 or 3 and 2 above average bats? And at least a little control? That would be an awesome deadline. I’d also think about flipping Jake or Chad if we accomplished all that to recoup some prospects.
My definition of trading away the farm would be trading players who are designated ( in pencil) for a role in Houston while prospects without a role in the future of the organization stay. Unless that theoretical hole is filled so the player is no longer needed.
Currently I would say; Melton is the future starting CF or RF Matthews is a future starter at SS, 2b, or CF, Dezenzo is the future starter at 3b or 1b. Bloss, Arrighetti, Blubaugh are future SP. I'm all for trading any of them if a guy who gets returned fills the hole ( Melton traded and Robert brought in) or if he loses that status (Loperfido is designated as likely starting cf for next 3+ years) Buy trading them w/o a plan for the future of that position would be my idea of "selling the farm"
Jake Bloss to the DL with neck discomfort. “It’s ok- probably being overly cautious about nothing,” Dana Brown says. 1 month later word slowly leaks out his right arm has been amputated. “He’s always been pretty ambidextrous,” Brown said. “We expect to see him back next July or August in time for the 2025 stretch run.”
He was definitely joking. Skenes might be the most valuable player in all of baseball right now when it comes to trade value. He’s not going anywhere
Do you really think for one second that the Pirates would trade one of the best pitchers in baseball for Bloss?? Come on now.
