Against all other hitters. And I’m not comparing it to league average in all teams spots because I don’t care about that. I’m comparing them to league average of the top 3 or 5 offenses because that’s who we have to be better than to get through the playoffs. And that’s not good enough.
Fedde (no longer available) Crochet Flaherty Taillon Snell Gausman (Toronto holds on to him) Skubal (don't see Tigers trading him) Kikuchi T. Anderson
My bad. I missed the 2nd Y. Diaz I retract my statement. Now it's just weak at #7 which is much closer and could actually work. Jeremy is on pace for 14 HR, 44 total extra base hits and 73 RBI. Ideally you want more power and run production in the #7 spot of a lineup.
Anderson is who I would really like but I haven't heard a thing about the Angels being interested in moving him. He's not a rental and he's having a great year and another recent 2022 season that was excellent.
2022 world series clinching game we had Vazquez, Mancini, Chas and Maldonado 6 through 9. Pena, Meyers, Loperfido and Singleton are at least as good as those 4, likely a bit better. Hopefully we get an upgrade, but it's just not reasonable to expect all stars at all positions.
If you don't look under the hood, he's great. He is like one of those American muscle car models from the early 80s where they put fuel efficient 4 and 6 cylinders in them without changing the looks.
At this point I would likely make a deal for Yandy Diaz. He is 32 years old, only makes 8 million next year. While he is having a down year - for his career he has an OPS+ of like 125 and the last two seasons before this one, he has had an OPS+ of 145-150. There is a solid chance he has an OPS+ above 120 in the second half, which would be a huge boon for the Astros offense. He can also bat just about anywhere in the line up as well. Altuve Bregman Tucker Alvarez Diaz Diaz Meyers Pena DH The odd thing is that the Astros theoretically could trade for a bat only guy, like JD Martinez or Brent Roker and they could roll with Yordan in LF and start a nasty line up... Sure. And to win that title with that collection of spares hitting there in the lineup it took one of the greatest bullpen runs in the history of the world- Framber pitching like an ace at the height of his power and we still had a game we needed to put up zero's for 18 innings in order to get the win. Lets just say I wouldn't view that as particularly something I'd like to try to replicate with this years staff.
Yes. And scored 4 runs that game. Also only scored 22 runs in 6 games that World Series. So that's kind of my point.
Also Yandy was garbage in March and April but since May he's been over 800 in his ops. He's getting to the age where every bad streak can cause a worry that he's cooked, but that's way more than likely not the case and he just had a really bad start to the season. The team option for 2026 is also nice.
Flaherty scratched from his start, I hope Dana pounces quick. By far the best rental and I think the most experienced starter I’d trust in a postseason start ala JV in 2017.
If the Astros find them being pushed out on the pitching side of the trade market - they should really go hard for Diaz, but also another bat first guy, the Mets want to move JD Martinez for example --- they can look at Rooker and a few others out there...... they can then try stacking their line up to off set some of the issues from getting less on the pitching side....... replace Singleton and Dubon with Diaz and Martinez or Rooker would be a major upgrade and would probably allow the starters and high leverage relievers rest in some games.
Was that before their latest run? I just don’t understand why they would want to move him now that they are currently a wild card team and only 1.5 back from the Braves/top WC spot.
Already went through this with you about 10 days ago. Are there better options then Anderson? Yes. If these other options wind up going to other teams are you going to say no to Anderson (if the Angels are willing to trade him at a reasonable price)? This team desperately needs someone who can eat innings. Again I pointed out to you that he's averaged over 6 innings per start and since then he's now at 130.2 innings over his 21 starts. That's 6.2 innings per start. He has quality starts against: Phillies Rangers Royals Padres Brewers Rays Cubs Oak (last outing) And really good outings against Baltimore, Yankees, M's, and SF where he pitched really well but didn't go 6 innings. Do you want to keep rolling with Bloss and Arrighetti every 4th and 5th day because if they Dana doesn't add a quality innings eater they're not going to make the playoffs. No idea how JV is going to look when he returns (and if he can stay healthy) and if Garcia can contribute. You can look under the hood all you want but whatever he's doing is better then Bloss and Arrighetti. He has a 2.96 era with a 1.140 whip which would be a HUGE upgrade with our 4th and 5th spots in the rotation.
This was after they started winning - I don't know if it is a fit issue with them or not. They should be getting their CF back soon too.
I would love to have JD. The Mets are still looking to move him even though they're currently the 3rd WC?
