Millennium Media and Ketchup Entertainment have released the first trailer for “Hellboy: The Crooked Man,” the clip arriving just over a year after the project wrapped production in Bulgaria.

In the live-action film, Hellboy (Jack Kesy) and a rookie BPRD agent (Adeline Rudolph) are stranded in 1950s rural Appalachia. There, they discover a small community haunted by witches and led by a local devil with a troubling connection to Hellboy’s past – the Crooked Man.

Said man is Jeremiah Witkins, an 18th-century miser and war profiteer hanged for his crimes yet returned from Hell as the region’s resident Devil.

For the first time in the franchise to date, original creator Mike Mignola has penned the script alongside his Dark Horse comics collaborator Chris Golden. Jefferson White, Joseph Marcell, Hannah Margetson and Martin Bassindale co-star.

Brian Taylor (“Crank”) directs the film, which offers a smaller focus story than either the two beloved Guillermo del Toro-directed “Hellboy” features in 2004 and 2008 starring Ron Perlman, or the widely panned 2019 reboot helmed by Neil Marshall and starring David Harbour.

no idea if this will be any good but bad reviews from places like shillrant are already trying to bury it. this isn't surprising as it's an independent movie.

I'll predict a miss based on the trailer. But I like the idea of it. A dark Hellboy.

Horror Hellboy? Hard pass. Much prefer Guillermo Del Toro's take on it. Ron Pearlman killed it as Hellboy, every one else sucks at it.

Those were fun, never saw the other one. If the creator of the comic wasn't behind this I'd probably skip it too; will stream at some point.

From what I can tell, it hasn't screened anywhere yet, so not sure what they're basing that on.

I think this might work. Indie-style Hellboy meets the OG Evil Dead.
