Chafin is a rental. Skubal is a free agent after the 2026 season. It’s probably roughly fair but I would consider it a steal for Houston. Skubal is one of the 10 best pitchers in the league right now.
Not that it might not be fair But other teams would easily outbid us on that I think a Flaherty/Chafin/Torkelson package is more realistic for us
I’d do it if I was houston not if I was Detroit. I think in that division they probably figure he could be on their next playoff team. It could’ve 25 or 26.
There’s no chance this team could land Skubal. So many teams would be in on him with deeper systems that they would have their choice essentially on which prospects they want. It might be a somewhat fair deal what you have proposed but it assumes they like all those prospects over every other option they would have. Probably not the case.
Blake Snell had his 4th straight good game. Against Colorado but he went 6 innings, 0 runs, 2 hits, 15 k's. Will Crane be tempted??? If they think he's turned the corner, they would be confident he'll opt out right so next year would be no issue. Only concern would be injury that forces him to opt in.
That really wouldn't be an issue in a deal for Snell There will be no battle in a deal for a guy with an opt out on a sizeable deal for next year. ALL the risk is on the team. Those guys are almost never moved, so if Crane says lets do it, it wouldn't be too difficult to get a deal done
Just want to point out that Crane was Ultimately responsible for bringing JV back last year. The only trade of significance that Brown has made is for Graveman last year. All the moves that the Braves made were by Alex Anthopoulos.
MLB had Serna at 19 and BA had him at 11 Ramirez was lower because there are doubts he can stay at catcher, but his bat seems like he will definitely be an MLB player
Would Crane be tempted? Yes - will the Astros do it? I don’t know but San Francisco would like to jettison some payroll. A lot of these larger deals are possible if the Astros can roll Montero into a deal.
This is largely correct. Brown was involved in executing trades in Atlanta but they all had to be run by his boss… with the Astros, Brown was the one that negotiated the players sent to the Mets. Brown is working with Crane - literally. He and Crane are in constant contact. The only time Crane wasn’t heavily involved was the year the Astros missed out on guys and the players spoke up complaining…. Click tried not to keep in constant contact and only let Crane know when a deal was “offered” or could be offered - and Crane was very critical of that. My point being that when it comes to bigger deals - it is Crane + GM…. So the lack of experience for Brown may not matter as much. Also - there hasn’t been a trade yet where I felt the Astros blew an opportunity.
Arozarena for a pretty light package headed the other way seems like a big miss right now to me. If we have better coming our way I’d be surprised. Upgrading LF in a major way would have been great.
Trade prospects, I would trade guys like Gordon/Hamilton, Brewer for one year of Snell. Cy Snell gives the Stros the best rotation in MLB. If JV comes back at SP4 you know you're in a good place. Then use Melton, Baez, Dombrowski etc.. to trade for Diaz or /Paredes.
Nook, who knows how things will play out, but if you were to guess who do you think they'll be able to swing a trade(s) for?
