Grae Kessinger hit a walk off Sac fly in the 11th inning to give Sugarland the win. Zach Dezenzo went 3-6 with a double and is hitting .600 thus far in triple A. Will Wagner and Quincy Hamilton with 2 hits a piece.
If Dezenzo can maintain a relatively good OPS in AAA the remainder of this season, is he the Astros' opening day starter at third base next season?
Why make a huge trade, just need a minor trade. Analytics, Scouting staff need to find a gem AAA Pitcher that is ready to be promoted from another team.
What do you consider a huge trade? They need proven playoff tested hitting and a middle of the order bat IMHO.
Hamilton, Wagner, Whitcomb, and even Leon having impressive seasons. How good is Wagner defensively? Not much power but seems to have elite plate discipline.
He is average to below average at 2B and 1B and below average to bad at 3B. He’d probably be ok in the corner OF if he played there enough to feel comfortable.
It's really a shame he isn't just a small bit better in either power or with the glove. He is THAT close to being MLB caliber. He looks to either be a AAAA utility guy with a few cups of coffee to cover injuries for 4 or so years, or an all star in Asia. Maybe both.
If the Astros can't bring in a bat, I'm at the point where I would try my luck with Wagner or Whitcomb than to continue running Singleton out there every day. And I'm not confident at all Wagners OBP skills will translate, the status quo is killing me.
I think Leon or Whitcomb need a chance. I'm sorry but somebody needs to bring some offense to LF. And RF until Tucker returns. I think Chas needs to play everyday in AAA in August and if he performs in line with his pre-2024 self bring him back in September and use that month to develop the OF plan for the post-season (if they get there) It may save his career and help him have a better 2025
I think Wagner will have a decent big league career, but it will be as a bench player on any decent team, or regular for a crummy team. I would be totally fine with him as Houston’s 12th or 13th position player. He will probably offer more overall value as a 3B than Singleton. Between Wagner, Whitcomb, Dezenzo, Matthews, Melton, Leon, Loperfido, Cabbage, and Hamilton, Houston HAS to be able to dig out at least one above average regular at either 1B, 3B, or corner OF.
They are both league average lefty bats who play average to below average 1B defense. Wagner offers some defensive versatility and lower k rate whereas Singleton offers super-tantalizing power and a very good walk rate. They’re actually very similar players in terms of overall value. Wagner could be like a lefty Dubon without the defensive value.
Bring the K rate down just a smidge and it will really get interesting. He's untouchable to me in any trade that doesn't bring back an all star with multiple years of team control
C Will Bush has a .919 ops since coming back to Fayetteville from a very brief stint in Asheville. He has only struck out 3 times in 34 pa. I was quite high on him coming out of the draft and upon seeing him assigned to full season ball, but was very disappointed in his first half in A ball. Would be great to see him keep this up and start next season in Asheville where he would again be a breakout candidate.
