It was fun. Lots of violence and Deadpool style comedy. You don't need to be up on all the latest Marvel stuff, but this is definitely for those who have been in it from the beginning. I've been seeing maybe half of all the stuff since End Game. I'm glad I caught this at theaters.
What’s funny to me is the same people who vehemently hated She Hulk will be the people who tell us this is the greatest movie ever. I saw it… and about 5 minutes in I realized I just need to sit back and channel my 18 year old self who thought Van Wilder was funny so I can somewhat enjoy what was coming. Make no mistake though… this is not a good movie by any stretch. Convoluted plot. Unclear stakes. Plot holes. Horrible CGI at times… Etc etc… it’s not good by any stretch. The jokes also aren’t all that creative. Using the word “fck face” dozens of times can generate a laugh if you allow it to, but does that classify as a comedic masterpiece… no… just as constantly showing cgi knives and swords stab into gci flesh with cgi blood splatting everywhere while we constantly hear the sound clip of the Wolverine claw retraction… doesn’t equal great cinematic action. Still there’s good fun to be had here and some good moments. Oh and of course there are cameos galore. This movie wanted certain cameos so bad that they created half of the plot just so they can be in a certain place that could serve as a vehicle to deliver cameos that serve as mostly a joke… but to this movies credit they are fun. That being said… literally half of the movie’s plot is stationed in a certain place just to serve the purpose of cameos. That’s …. Something. That might seem spoilery but let’s be honest… if you’ve seen any trailers you already know what I’m talking about and the only surprise is who it is that is making an appearance. This is a spoof of the MCU and the Fox comic universe. It’s a sister project to She Hulk. That’s the best way to describe it. That being said it’s good fun and I chuckled a few times. That being said this is by no means a good movie as hard as Disney and their social media influencers will try and lead you to believe. Go watch it if you are free but don’t cancel your weekend plans either. It’s a light C in my book. Could have been a B with a better script that actually made sense.
Saw it last night, enjoyed it for what it was but its so aggressively meta that its almost cynical. The action is solid but like @dobro1229 said the movie didn't need three Deadpool Wolvie fights and the story is just an excuse to bring all the cameos an not have to worry about any consequences. Its a nice send off for the Fox Marvel stuff with all the callbacks and cameos, kind of wished they would have used Matthew Macfadyen and Emma Corrin a bit more.... B from me, of the three Deadpool movies I actually think this is the weakest....
I was already feeling it after Deadpool 2. Then came all the trailers and commercials and now I'm ready to tap out.
I also have no idea what Feige was talking about when he said this movie is right under endgame in terms of importance to the MCU moving forward. Again not to spoil but this movie had zero stakes and setup that I could make out. I guess that’s a good thing though because this movie and she-hulk having to have a storyline that carries into future movies would be a huge mistake. I can’t even imagine how much the Deadpool character at this point would totally take people out of the movie if there’s real stakes and emotions in play. It would be a really really dumb move to put Ryan Reynolds’s Deadpool in an Avengers level movie, and Disney should fire Feige if he tries to make that happen if they already aren’t considering a switch at the top since it seems he’s sort of lost his grasp on the quality control and seems to be saying yes to damn near any idea at this point. But back to my point, do not worry about this film having any importance in the larger MCU. It was made to just exists over in its own area of meta fan service spoof zone… again… just like She Hulk with F bombs.
so true! The cameo's are better than the plot. The cameo's were really good. everything else dragged. Spoiler: Spoileres about a Cameo in The movie I can't believe Feigie let them say all that stuff about Blade when the current Blade movie is in development hell. It was funny, but pretty disrepectful IMO. should have cut that out.
Haven't seen it but talked to an MCU nerd buddy who did. He said there were all sorts of subtle comments and hints that hinted at the future of the MCU. I think in terms of importance, this was a BIG one to get fans re-engaged with the MCU. Even fans like me have some fatigue/boredom with the much lower quality stuff they pumped out over the past few years have been looking forward to this one.
My buddy took his girls, 10 and 13....he said it was pretty gory, lots of language. I am hesitant to take my 18yo but that's just my wishful thinking that he's still a sweet kid but has had access to the internet. Kids see more **** than we realize. I watched 80's R-rated action movies as a kid and I'm fine.
I’m not a fan of the recent stuff that Marvel has put out like many BUT I always been both a Wolverine fan and a Deadpool fan plus I been clamoring for Dafne Keene (Probably spelled her name wrong- oops) to return as X23 - Hopefully they did it justice I’m not expecting a great movie just something that I’ve been waiting to see that is going to be fun -going to take the wife and the two daughters either this weekend or maybe after the weekend on Tuesday because everybody has plans these days…one daughter has a new boyfriend so her weekend is booked, wife has a craft business - It’s so hard to get the family together but I think we all committed for Tuesday I generally trust critical drinker - Summary : this movie isn't designed to save the MCU nor does it probably care about doing that- it's a love letter to the early 2000 year Comic Movies that were preeminent, fresh and generally much better imagined than compared to recent - ,... Is it a great story? Naw but it has a tremendous personality duo that works with the Wolverine and Deadpool characters And I think that's what most people want to look forward to myself included..
I think it succeeds in getting buzz, and ticket sales. Folks that were all woke this woke that about Marvel and Disney will go see this one and revel every time Ryan Reynolds says woke. And there’s a ton of dudes that just really like the word fck and the nostalgia fan service. So yeah Marvel and Disney needed a shot in the arm in terms of money and buzz…especially with the bro crowd who will love this one because it’s not “woke” according to their anti woke code… but I do think it’ll be a sugar high. I don’t see a ton of rewatch ability personally. I guess I missed a lot of the threads your friend was talking about but it could be where he’s just talking about all the Easter eggs and wink wink not so subtle nod nods at the audience. Yeah you can watch any of the scenes and be like… oh this is an Easter egg to dr doom or whomever but I think your friend is looking too much into those Easter eggs. There’s nothing in those Easter eggs that are setup by the actual plot of any of the key character actions and fallout. From a plot perspective it just sort of happens. It just uses every MCU/Fox tool in the tool box while it does this side thing. Like with Quantumania it just sort of feels like the end takes you back to where things were in the beginning anyways… which is a problem for the MCU I think. Last movie I can think of that moved the characters and plot forward I think was No Way Home. The Marvels really only moved one character forward and it was a character who had only been introduced in a show. I dunno… but I think this movie resembles a sugar high and a nice pay to keep MCU/Disney afloat to help fund their next year of project development. Makes sense to put this movie in the year where they have nothing else and the franchise does a reset. Huge stakes for the new captain America film. Because imo this film matters very little for the future narrative but serves as a nice side quest fun time of nonsense that’ll make Disney a ton of money.
Just watched it. Best Marvel movie I've seen in years. Thoroughly enjoyed it. I can't even comprehend how anyone would compare this to the garbage She-Hulk was, probably the same people that loved Eternals and Secret Invasion.
I'm really thankful none of the cameos (except one because of marvel) were spoiled for me. I was genuinely shocked at mutiple people. Without the cameos thes movie would have been cooked for me.
