When there's a question always go with pitching. a backup catcher is probably going to play in only about 45-50 games. I said this at the time.
The more I see Paredes name being floated around the more I feel the Astors are figuring Bregman won't be back. I would be happy with Paredes (non overpay) since Breggy Pop is most likely out the door.
I'm sure you can find some in this Winter's Sears catelog. The Summer sale doesn't look too promising.
The Astros have been "aware" that Bregman is likely gone for 1.5 years. They really toyed with the idea of adding Matt Chapman last year. They also have had interest in Paredes since last winter.
I can see that. There's a likelihood and there's a certainty and I feel the organization thinks it's definitely a certainty he's gone (even though they can't publicly state that)
LAD just let their lefty with an 8-2 record waivers. The And Decenzo gives us major option next year tearing the cover off the ball too!
What would y'all think about trading for the Reds Nick Martinez? He's got experience starting and has been very good out of the Reds bullpen this year. He would be an inexpensive add for those who are prospecthuggers.
No way anyone isn't getting Paredes without "overpaying" But what is an overpay? A Verlander 2017 deal? A Grienke 2019 deal? The Astros gave up 3 and 4 of their best prospects in those deals. Those prospects did hardly anything. The Astros could trade away 5 of their top 6-8 prospects and it's 75% or better that they win that trade. Prospects are suspects.
I really don't want to trade from our top outfielder prospects. We traded two OFers last year for JV, and we will find our OF depth is going to fall very quickly. Tucker is hurt now and likely gone after next season, Chas has fallen off a cliff, Meyers has been solid this season but unproven long term, and Yordan is a part-time outfielder. Between Melton, Lopefido, Leon and Whitcomb we need all the depth we can get and hope at least 2 of these guys emerge.
Exactly and for 3 years of Paredes hitting balls into the Crawford boxes there's only 2 guys in the minors I wouldn't want to trade. Mattews/Dezenzo. I would make Baez the headliner and I think Baez is going to be really good. But a guy that can hit 30 HR's given the Crawford boxes is going to cost something like Baez/Melton/Blubaugh/Ullola.
There's plenty of OF depth in the org. Baez/Cole/Gomez etc... You can afford to trade all of the OF'ers you listed and still have plenty of OF depth. IF depth is what's lacking in the org. I'm hoping Wagner gets a shot at the utility inf/of position next year if he's not traded.
X this MFer off the list. Who else we got? "Crochet, 25, wants a contract extension if he's traded in order to pitch in the postseason this year, according to sources familiar with the situation. Crochet is also telling teams he has no desire to pitch out of the bullpen, citing health concerns for all of the above requests." "Crochet still has two more years of team control after this season before he becomes a free agent, but to push himself for another month in October, he wants security, according to the sources. And he prefers to stay in a starting pitching routine."
It’s seems like every year there’s a prospect that breaks through who we never heard about like blubaugh or Bloss. I’d trade prospects for proven talent especially if you can reload the minors
