That's a lot of money for some dudes who talk during and after the thing you actually want to watch! Although I guess they do trip over cables and laugh a lot. (I do like these guys. Just, wow. That's a lot of dough.)
they should switch shack with gill arena and have jjj redick be the host once ernie retires, since breh will be out of a lakers job by then. dunno how long sir chuck can do it, but there's no replacements for him.
I betcha they reach a settlement. WBD is making a leverage play to get something in return because they know the NBA badly wants Amazon.
Yup, that’s what a lot of people are expecting and makes a lot of sense. Publicly they could not not make an offer. At least now they can pretend they wanted to keep the rights.
Haha this is definitely not over yet, but here's the official NBA statement: HUGE W!! Bye bye Draymond, Shaq & Reggie. **** you. Sorry Ernie and people who tried to make this entertaining for us over the years.
Go ahead and get out your popcorn, but it's clear Amazon will get exactly what they paid for. The NBA can either pay WBD something to go away or they will carve out a small, 4th slice for TNT. 95% chance there is a negotiated settlement.
Amazon scores 11-year deal with the NBA in a slam dunk for tech giant's sports streaming ambitions – GeekWire Amazon announced its massive new media rights deal with the National Basketball Association on Wednesday, providing a major boost to the company’s sports streaming business. The 11-year deal begins with the 2025-26 NBA season and will include exclusive streaming rights to 66 regular season games, as well as playoff games in six of the 11 years. NBA says it has entered deal with Amazon, not accepting Warner Bros. Discovery's offer (msn.com) The NBA said Wednesday that it is not accepting Warner Bros. Discovery's $1.8 billion per year offer to continue its longtime relationship with the league and therefore has entered into a deal with Amazon Prime Video, a move that would mean this coming season would end a nearly four-decade run of games being on TNT. That would also suggest the series of media rights deals approved by the league's Board of Governors last week with Disney, NBC and Amazon Prime Video — 11-year agreements that will be worth about $76 billion — are on the cusp of being finalized, at least from the NBA's perspective. https://pr.nba.com/nba-statement-warner-bros-discovery-proposal/ NEW YORK – The NBA today issued the following statement: “Warner Bros. Discovery’s most recent proposal did not match the terms of Amazon Prime Video’s offer and, therefore, we have entered into a long-term arrangement with Amazon. “Throughout these negotiations, our primary objective has been to maximize the reach and accessibility of our games for our fans. Our new arrangement with Amazon supports this goal by complementing the broadcast, cable and streaming packages that are already part of our new Disney and NBCUniversal arrangements. All three partners have also committed substantial resources to promote the league and enhance the fan experience. “We are grateful to Turner Sports for its award-winning coverage of the NBA and look forward to another season of the NBA on TNT.”
https://www.nba.com/news/nba-media-agreements-2024 This breaks it down very clearly and NBC while overpaying for sure, definitely got a solid deal with a double header opening night, the whole All-Star Weekend and most national games by far. The Sunday triple-header not coming back is kind of sad, but not a dealbreaker. Still crazy they didn't get a Friday or Saturday though. Hopefully they can get ASW back on track after years of hearing Kenny and Reggie screaming and talking over anything interesting by being self-absorbed in the process. NBC Sports channel already promoting that they're coming back with the roundball song with new footage. So happy NBC's back, TNT not coming back is only a bonus. Btw NBC and ESPN will each get a Conference Finals in the first season and one season of the 11 there will be Prime and NBC sharing a Conference Finals, since ESPN got 10/11 years. The Finals being on Prime Video in a lot of the big European countries as well as some other play-offs games might be interesting, though Prime here in the Netherlands is ass and likely not getting the same package.
Btw even though ESPN coverage is egregious, insulting, divisive and what have you, TNT’s was insulting to our intelligence as well and Inside the NBA dug their own grave by allowing Barkley to continuously say he doesn’t watch games, Shaq to use it to boost about his endeavours outside of NBA and stop conversations and finally adding Draymond Green. I don’t think the league office agreed with especially that last part. The show also allowed mainly Shaq & Charles to basically take the spotlight from EJ.
I've gone 100% streaming after the ref job on the Rockets. TNT generally put out inside the nba on Youtube anyways. And hellll no will I watch commercials on Prime...
Inside the NBA was more interesting than the game most of the time. NBA ratings were garbage and they are getting more money it kind of doesn't make sense.
