Eflin's salary for next year is $18M which is 0.5M more than they would have paid for Verlander. Shall we dream? Melton, Arrighetti, Leon, Wagner, Blubaugh, Cole, and Kouba (all Click draftees or signees) For Eflin, Paredes, and Arozarena Edit: can only do Arrighetti if they get another SP or BOTH Verlander and Garcia return to the rotation.
Randy is bouncing back - he has been really good the last two months. He just had a bad April and May. The short answer on France is that I don't know, but have wondered the same thing - and why I would think a team would be smart to take a flier on him.
Paredes is someone that the Astros have been very aggressive with for some time. Yes - he holds a lot of value to Houston because he can play 1st and 3rd and provides a plus bat at a low cost and is under team control for 3.5 more years. He could replace Bregman at 3rd next year and provide the same value as Bregman most likely. As for Zac Eflin, quality starter (not a star) that is competitive and gives the Astros innings. I really have no idea what the cost would be for the Astros - but I know that the would for certain lose one of their outfielders in that deal... and a lot of young players/prospects. The Rays want to move Eflin actually - so his cost may be reasonable, but Paredes is not cheap.
The Astros and White Sox line up well for a trade because the Sox want outfielders and young position players.... their pitching in the lower minors is very strong.
If the Astros can get Eflin and Paredas without losing any MLB SP and still have Tucker and Yordan (obviously) and 2 of Meyers, Chas, Loperfido, and/or Leon then I say go for it even if a couple of top 5 guys need to go. I hear they like Chas. . . I think this smoke has fire and we will all be excited and shocked when Paredas becomes an Astro in the next few days.
I would be ok with that too, we have pitchers on the MLB roster right now that don't belong anyway I'm just saying I don't think he has true trade value. Hope i'm wrong. If he is enough to get someone to take Montero plus upgrade us at 1B, hell yea let's go My hopes are not extremely high
I don't think that's anywhere close to enough to get those three If they wanted to package those three together, they could likely get two prospects both better than Melton
My hopes are minimal. I just kinda want to see Leon and Whitley...if they suck, they suck I don't think it's a totally ludicrous thing
Based on all we have heard about the talent those 2 have, and the investment the team has made in them, it's very strange to me that the team just seams to dismiss them.
Agree, especially on Leon Was very weird to hear that scout say there was no chance that Leon would be brought up
I've gotten to the point where I would give up Baez plus for Parades. Problem is the Rays need a young catcher in the worst way. The Stros don't have a young catcher prospect worth a salt to trade. So for Dana to trade for Parades that means a third team would have to be involved. Who that team is and what it would take to get a tradeable young catcher? Who knows.
A lot is really unknown at this point - several teams have not decided if they will be sellers at this point. Ironically, the Astros and M's ******** the bed this week has actually started to push the Rangers away from being sellers, and as a result could make the market even tighter. The Blue Jays are going to sell at least rentals, and a lot of teams (including the Astros) believe they will end up moving guys like Guerrero and Bichette, but it may be this winter. The Rays are going to regroup and move some guys that are getting more expensive, or that they can get a premium for. White Sox and Marlins and Angels and Rays and Jays and Reds are all going to be sellers to some extent. The Angels, Jays, Reds and Rays will move rentals for sure and more if they get good offers. The Cubs are possibly sellers - but only rentals and they are extremely difficult to work with. The Orioles are willing to move a few guys on the MLB roster but they want to add talent to the big league roster - so the Astros would likely need to been in a three team deal with them. The best "match" for the Astros is the teams the Astros have spoken to the most, the White Sox and Rays. The White Sox and Astros have both really scouted each others systems quite a bit..... with the Orioles wanting a starter and centerfielder, I don't think the Astros end up with Robert or Crochet, but they could end up with other players.
I've thought they would end up with Fedde all along. They really dont have any bats I like. I would give up Baez/Melton/Bloss/Gordon/Ullola for Paredes. The only guy off the board for Paredes would be Matthews. However the Rays really need a catcher and the Stros catchers down on the farm suck.
