Every sport needs some form of unguaranteed contracts. The current certainty is great for players, but terrible for fans and the owners. See Jabreu
If you are over a certain age, 1 guaranteed, 2 years depending on the previous year max. You can't tell me a 40 year old declining in age will not do well in the 1st year of his contract but suddenly be an All-Star in the 2rd and/or 3rd year.
Hard pass. Don’t want it to be like football where guys are consistently holding out or threatening to hold out.
If you don't like Arozerana chances are you will REALLY not like whoever they do get because there's not much better than Arozerana out there the Astros have a legitimate chance at.
Benefit to the Astros Winker is unlikely to go back to Seattle Flaherty is unlikely to go back to Baltimore
“Try go to big and see if there’s a deal that makes sense for the organization,” Brown said of his efforts to add a starter. “If that don’t work, we’ll go down to mid-level and hopefully we can land something there. But it doesn’t hurt to ask. When you go through this, ask and thou shall receive sometimes. We want to try to go big, and if we can’t get the big thing done, we’ll try to go mid-level so we can get through this.” — Dana Brown So what would “going big” look like in the starting pitcher market? Apparently the Tigers are saying everyone is available. Tarik Skubal? White Sox….Crochet would be the headliner, but Fedde has been quietly solid this season. Eovaldi from the Rangers, but….yeah…..Tanner Scott from The Marlins?
I just don't think he's multiple years of control of Spaghetti good. To me, young and cheap pitching outweighs a marginal improvement in the outfield. HIstorically, Arozerena is better, yes . . . but this year . . . not that much. Maybe a change of scenery would help, but then we need yet another starter. If we can swap Chas for Randy (with a rando AA or something). . . ok, I'll work with that. Trade away pitching for Randy . . . I'm a no.
That's fair. However I will also add that it only works if Arrighetti is replaced by another SP or multiple guys get healthy. But Arozerana has a career wRC+ of 124 and over 1.100 OPS in 128 postseason PAs. He isn't a FA until 2027. And he's at 162 wRC+ since June 1st. I would do Arrighetti +
He was terrible for a lot of the season But since June 1 he has an OPS north of 900 He would be a massive upgrade, but the cost would be very high. Personally if I was going to sell the farm, i'd be going after Skubal type of SP
Wouldn't mind a taking a shot on Detmers on a buy low Angels are terrible with pitchers, the ability is there for the guy would love to see our organization get a shot at getting him right
James Click is the VP of baseball strategy for the Blue Jays. The Astros top prospect list is littered with players drafted or signed by Click. He also identified Montero as a legitimate leverage reliever so may think he can be fixed. It stands to reason that he knows a lot about these players, likes (or at least liked) them, and if he wants to be a GM again it can only help him for those players to succeed so he probably likes the idea of having a say in their progress. Blockbuster deal. Vlad Jr, Kikuchi, and Y. Garcia For Montero, Melton, Blubaugh, Rhett Kouba, and Zach Cole. (All brought in by Click) Others: Flaherty For Pedro Leon and Jose Fleury Arozarena For Chas, and Arrighetti
I worry about Taillon's health. But he still has a great arm and it would be a great story if Brown would bring Taillon home.
