Silas to Udoka has resulted in superior talent evaluation. No more Silas dummies in the organization. They love love Alperen. Franchise cornerstone. Prying away Alperen from Udoka’s dead hands will costs a top 15-er…
Guys who could be in the top five centers: Clearly top 5 Jokic Embiid AD (if he counts as a center) Maybe top 5 Wemby Bam Sabonis Gobert Alpi clearly fits in with that latter group IMO. Hard to say exactly where his performance this past season would rank him among those players. You could argue that offensively he's already the best of those four guys, though personally I think Sabonis still has a slight edge over him on offense, and Wemby and Bam are either right there at the same level or just very slightly behind. Defense is where Sengun clearly falls behind all of the players on this list except maybe Jokic and Sabonis. So, I can see the argument for him being in the top five, but I think he might be more like #6 or #7 based on what he's done so far. I do expect him, if healthy, to be a top 5 center this upcoming season though because I don't think he's done improving.
Steals are more valuable than blocks, because a steal means your team gains possesion. Sengun was no. 3 among starting centers in steals per game last season.
My center rankings Jokic Embiid Davis Sengun. Many people “tied” w/ Alpi here but I give him an advantage over Gobert and Sabonis. Sengun is ascending and I do think that his deficiencies are going to hold the team back less than those associated with Sabonis/Gobert/Adebayo. it is on us as an organization to make sure that Sengun understands why we are holding off on extending him and to ensure that we take advantage of doing this next year. it is also on us as an organization to begin to maximize our potential and our schemes around him. I think We have done a good job with that over the last couple years in regards to personnel. we need to continue to build on our offensive and defensive schemes. He can certainly do much more offensively. Jabari Smith as his partner hasn’t been a positive in the dynamic yet BUT I feel like he will breakout this year. That will make Sengun look even better.
Sengun's team is smart enough to know that if they give someone like Green a max, this franchise is a 2nd round exit.. They might as well look out for the next contending team. A lot of good pieces but the pieces do not necessarily cry big money. I also think it is a business, and history showed us the Rockets and FO mostly negotiated hard with their own players.
Think about this logically. Sengun is top 5 center i see some folk having him at number 4. So there's already 3 players above him just at center. 7 spots left out of 10. There are 4 other positions with top 5 rankings also. That's 20 players right there. The 1st and 2nd rank of the other position should obviously b higher ranked than the 4th best center right? That's another 8 players right there. Just the top 3 players of each position alone will push sengun out of the top 10. Now if u believe the 4th best center clears some of the 2nd best pg/sg/sf/pf in the league than mathematically sengun will b in the top 10. Let's say he's the 3rd best center. Same logic applies. Now if u believe the 3rd best center clears some of the 2nd and all of the 3rd best pg/sg/sf/pf in the league than mathematically sengun will b in the top 10. Other wise the top 2 players of each position will push sengun out of top 10. I feel like being a Rockets fans or sengunatic blind folks into believing sengun right now is a top 10 player easily. Man will most likely b there sooner or later but it's quite a stretch to believe the 3rd/4th best center in the league = top 10 player.
Literally, I suppose--though block attempts and the threat of blocks can adversely influence shots that aren't blocked. I'm no stat maven, but I would guess the shot contest happens more way more frequently than steal opportunities. That said, having a center who can get steals is nothing but a plus.
I never said he was a Top 10 player. He isn't. But who are the top 10 players right now? And could Sengun eventually ascend to be on their level? I'll give you an easy one. SGA. If you consider SGA a top 10 player than Sengun could easily be a Top 10 player.
Mystik, you don't know SGA very well. Dude has some 25-35 moves and counter and he practices the same move 200-300x a day. Nothing about his ascension was easy.
Hmm, I love Sengun. But I would easily rank SGA above Sengun. SGA is close to a superstar, if not already. Sengun is close to an allstar.
SGA is 26. At 21 SGA was a tub of popcorn to Sengun's deep dish pizza. SGA is a Vegas all you can eat buffet right now so what will that make Sengun at age 26? My point being that if SGA is a superstar and Top 10 player then that is absolutely on the table for Sengun. No he isn't better than SGA is right now but Sengun at age 21 is beyond what SGA was at this same age.
That's why smart bball fans are excited about Sengun, already a borderline all-star, the potential is through the roof.
Watch him have consecutive 31 pt games, he literally counts his points, first guy whose stats are that predictable, comes with robotic practice. It is also not about Top ten, dude breathes clutch shooting, it is matter of time when he is Number 1, it's between him Luka and Joker. Those 3 are less human. Ant is there but he is the human one.
He won't be. SGA doesn't have that takeover gene that the greats all had. Sengun has that more than SGA does if Im keeping it 100. SGA is ruthlessly efficient but I don't ever see him being 1A on a title team. The Thunder will win a chip when Chet becomes their best player and SGA is their #2. But SGA is a hell of a #2 to have.
Shai came into the league as a 20 year old and Alpe as a 18 year old. Alpe has 2 more developmental years in the NBA, that is the only noteworthy part about SGA turning 26. More professional mileage at a younger age can also imply more injuries, it's not only positive. Plus those professional years in Turkey.
The stats don’t matter all that much. What really matters with a center on defense is preventing people from attempting shots at the rim. If you can force a 12 footer instead of a rim attempt that’s a massive win for your defense. It’s what made Dwight such a defensive monster and why someone like rudy has miles more impact on defense then any guard or wing ever could.
SGA was in the MVP conversation last season. He was the reason why OKC got to the top of the West. That suggests that he was top 5 in the league, or at least close to it. Sengun was a borderline all star. SGA might not have an aggressive personality. Neither did Tim Duncan. That doesn't mean these guys can't be the alpha dogs on championship teams. That said, if we looked at the developmental factor, Sengun at the end of his 3rd season was comparable to SGA's third season. That bodes well for him.
