Am I misunderstanding your post, or are you saying the only possible way that Reed turns out better than Amen and Cam is if the Rockets fail to develop Amen and Cam? It's not even a possibility that Reed turns out to just be better and/or a harder worker than them?
No offense, but you might want to read more threads. "CP3 with a more lethal shot" "Nash/Curry" these are legitimate comparisons made by many people on the forum. People are 100% claiming that he'll be a superstar and is our best prospect by some distance.
For the record, I am NOT one of those people. I intend to hold out any serious evaluation until I see him play a few months vs NBA level competition.
By the time the draft came around, Vecenie had Sheppard #2 on his board. So that isn't very surprising.
When u see folks on here hyping him up as the next Stephen curry isn't that basically implying that notion?
I haven't seen anyone do that from what I remember - maybe I have them blocked. Also, it depends on how the comparison is made - are people saying he will be as good as Curry (he won't)? Did they compare him to Curry because they are similar in size and both can shoot from the outside? Sam Vecenie for example has said that executives and scouts that are high on Sheppard believe that if everything hits for Sheppard, that he is a Steve Nash type of player. That doesn't mean he is going to be Steve Nash though - that is usually like a top 5% outcome situation. That isn't really the same thing as saying that he is going to be an equal to Steve Nash. I am old enough to remember watching Mark Price in his prime (although I was young), and I see a lot of similarities between Sheppard and Price - but everything came together for Price - the right team, right era and he proved himself. The reality is that Sheppard likely will not be as good as Price. Sheppard isn't in the same class as someone like Flagg or other "cannot miss" type prospects and a lot of his best traits are cerebral and physical (but not conventional). I saw some people on here balked at Vecenie saying that Sheppard had the highest reachable upside - that is a subjective thing. I understand why he says that, because he doesn't believe Amen will ever shoot well enough off the bounce to carry an offense- and he doesn't trust or believe in Jalen as a defender or decision maker.
Talking about best defenders, Reed must play against Amen or FVV in every practice. If he's as smart and resilient as we have been led to believe and figures it out in due time, he'll be pretty good in real games.
Then that will be a major win for the Rockets. In his 4-5 year prime (before he was hurt), Price was one of the 20 best point guards in NBA history.
I couldn't agree more. I'm guilty of saying Sheppard is a CP3/Curry hybrid. Do I really believe that? No, I don't, but certainly aspects of his game resemble those 2 players whether it's the way CP3 probes the paint or his lights out shooting from anywhere like Curry. However, the probability of becoming such a hybrid is very minimal, but it sure is fun to hype up our players. Wouldn't it be fun if he even came close and we actually had a Mark Price in our hands?
I swear, it’s so frustrating when people treat comps as predictions. The two concepts shouldn’t be that hard to differentiate.
Look, it’s the summer league silly season. People are just having fun. Take all this talk with a grain of salt. We won’t know much until the season starts. But, Sheppard did have a promising summer debut. That’s better than him looking awful. He doesn’t have to be a superstar to still be a good addition to the team.
