Ok folks I think at the start of this series we’d all take 2 of 3 so while slightly disappointed with no sweep I’m very happy overall…..
Glad to see Chas get the rbi single, but he really needed it in the 6th when the Astros were only down 3-2 but he struck out. By the time he did get it, they were down 3 and only had 4 outs left. Still, baby steps. Hopefully he starts tomorrow and has some good PAs and contributes to a win.
Oakland is starting a lefty it seems, so here's his chance to make an impression with the trade deadline nearing.
they can’t hit and potentially lost one of their best hitters with Julio hurting his ankle. I see your point though.
Definitely going to get a starting pitcher. And I also believe a relief pitcher. I put it at 50/50 we get a 1B either Vaughn, Diaz or Paredes.
Issue now though is the Astros have to sweep the last 3 game series to take the season series from the Mariners. Hopefully it won't come to that.
Astros are in a far better position this season than last year -- we didn't see 1st place until late-September in '23. Now, we're in 1st place with 2 months left. Astros will probably win the division by 5+ games, no tie breaker necessary.
Hitting the baseball is hard. Mariners have a really good staff. First swings in over a week and he goes 1 for 2 with a ribbie, that's a good day at the plate.
Grae has much more positional versatility. I just don't see how he fits on this 26-man roster while being an upgrade.
True. But not all PAs are equal. Not all 1 for 2s are equal. Not all 0 for 4s are equal. Chas' first PA, Espada chose him over Singleton with a chance to tie the game and he struck out. Later when it was his turn, even a HR would leave them trailing w/ 2 outs in the 8th and he hits an RBI single. Games are won by coming through when it matters and Chas has done that many times, but not yesterday when Espada specifically chose him. I'm happy he got the one in the 8th and maybe it's the start of something. But I'm thinking that in the organizations minds, those 2 PAs weren't equal. Still, I'm going to call a Chas HR today. It may end up being his last as an Astro.
Last as an Astro! That's pretty dramatic. I don't see the Stros selling low on Chas. They're not cutting a guy with a career OPS better than Meyers' best season. Speaking of your dude, he was 0 for 4 yesterday with a couple of strikeouts. In a game we lost by 2. I'd say he contributed more to the loss than Chas. He's got a .600 OPS in the last two months and has brought what was a breakout season back to around career norms.
Or Don't pitch Blanco in the 6th at all. He was 80+ pitches, right? - load management - Martinez starts bases empty instead of being Fire Marshall Bill Blanco's velocity has been down his last three appearances. He should be treated as a 85 PC guy until season's end. He also needs 2-3 skipped starts and a 6-man rotation ASAP.
I agree Meyers didn't have a good game, and offensively has been very hot or cold. He either goes 0 for 4 w/ 2 Ks or hits a HR And to be clear, Meyers is only "my guy" because of his competition. I see him as a 7 and the other CF options as 5 or 6. I would love for Leon to replace him and become another George Springer, or a trade for Luis Robert.
