He better play tonight. Now is not the time to take off. Especially after that last game. He needs to reaffirm that he can hit 3s at a high clip and that he is not a high TO threat. So he needs to be constantly moving around off ball like Curry.
He can't be off ball with this summer league squad, they are just too terrible at basketball for that. Sheppard is effectively the only guy who is active that can dribble a basketball at all.
I was excited to watch the game tonight then found out Reed was sitting. No need to watch now. . . But I'm watching for some dumb reason. Waste of my damn time. These guys are hard to watch.
I was holding off an overall thoughts until his SL was over, and I guess we're here....though I don't really have much to add that hasn't already been said. I was higher on Reed than most, so I wasn't *super* surprised by the IQ/playmaking and whatnot. I was fairly impressed with his ability to self-create (even if summer league). I felt like this was one of his biggest potential weaknesses (I said repeatedly don't put him in this situation pre-draft), and while he did struggle...he kinda didn't struggle too. I was fairly impressed by his ability to just produce even if things didn't go exactly as planned. His POA defense is the other big weakness, and yeah he didn't look great there. I do get a sense it is fixable (to some degree), so hopefully he can put in a lot of work there. Playing in a more organized flow with other POA defenders will help quite a bit too, though obviously if he's dreadful Ime won't even let him on the court. Fortunately his event creation on defense still popped in SL, so I'm expecting that to translate too, which can somewhat offset his other defensive issues IMO. I will say I'm surprised by how many people still don't really see Reed as a PG. Now on this particular team, I totally get sharing duties with some of the other playmakers, but I'm not really sure how much more Reed would have to show to demonstrate a strong PG skillset. I guess his handle needs work? Won't disagree there, but he seemed *really* good at just about everything else (mostly more important stuff IMO). His ability to operate ball screens (despite not really doing a ton of that in Kentucky) was very high level stuff. His passing led to some TOs at time, but I do think his vision/decision making/etc. was generally very good (honestly he was just a bit off on several passes, and perhaps better teammates might have helped). Sam Vecenie actually made a good point in his latest episode which is that Reed was generally able to make in-game adjustments that led to better performances in the 2nd half of most games (I actually had a similar thought based on that MIN game). Sam thinks this could be indication that he will rapidly improve, which I think could be reasonable. That's the kind of guy you want as a PG. Give him the ball, and rely on him to make the right decisions....because he is constantly making the right decision. Again I'll stress that on this roster (and depending on how things look moving forward), there will be value in having Reed off-ball and letting guys like Jalen, Amen, Sengun, etc cook. Maybe one of them could end up being better than Reed with this kind of stuff. But I think that will be more about those guys just being great than due to Reed not having a strong PG skillset. I suppose there's also the point that arguably all guards now need to be able to score, operate ball screens, playmake, etc., so there's maybe not even a huge difference between a PG and a SG....it is just simply a G position now.
Awww! How nice of them to not add his 3p%, which is what he is known for. They are just so very good at dress up.
I think if you want a PG that can break down defenses and make plays out of nothing, he isn't that kind of PG, at least not yet. But if you want a guy who keeps his composure in organizing the team and give the ball to the right guy at the right time, he can be that kind of floor general. And if he makes about 3 3pt shots and a couple of steals a game on the side, that's something every team wants.
I never said that. I think every organized form of game being played is important because there is always the threat of injury. Plus for us fans it means a lot after all the waiting. I'm actually hoping that I can find a taped game on YouTube sometime before the preseason starts.
You can spend like 12 bucks on league pass. All games available at 1080p with both home and away streams.
