[Official] Evan Mobley as a Cleveland Cavaliers thread

Wagner and now Mobley. These high end role players are the most dangerous when it comes to contracts. You really don't want to lose them but you also should not just hand them max contracts that will likely be regretted down the road.

That said, the expectation of a steep climb of the cap might be what spurring teams to be so generous. These contract might not look as bad when the cap rises. I am no capologist. Maybe someone like @BimaThug can explain the implications.

 

Nah Mobley just a bad deal. Cleveland had to max him since you and everyone else has been glazing Mobley up since he got drafted. Generational defender this, DPOY that. After praising Mobley to high heavens now they need to max him.

 

The problem is the rookie max is a percentage of cap so even if the cap increases their salaries also increase.

 

With the new TV deal coming in, teams are planning for the cap to increase a little faster than player raises annually. Hence, these contracts may end up being a little lower percentage of the salary cap in their last year than in their first year.

I understand Scottie, he is a (all) star. Why would you rush to pay max money to Cade (suspect health), Franz (downward trajectory), or Evan (no offense), I got no idea. Should have given them one more year to prove themselves before commiting all that money. We will see how our own non-commitment turns out.

 

Ain’t no pressure when dudes are restricted and you would be costing yourself large caproom.

 

Interesting that the change to the CBA was intended to create parity around the league. All its done this offseason is handicap desperate teams with below average players out of fear of losing them.
