That was crowdstrike Not Microsoft it affected Microsoft’s systems Like if you downloaded a antivirus program and it screws up your windows 11 Not windows 11 fault this is equivalent to a faulty airbag in a Toyota car but it was manufactured by a third party company , Toyota would make a recall and use a different company that makes airbags @basso @AroundTheWorld @Os Trigonum @CrixusTheUndefeatedGaul they don’t use DEI in sports Or when was the last time you talked to your IT department ?
From my experience its majority white and Asian male coming from middle to upper class backgrounds. This is a process failure. In a lot of smaller startups there is a complete lack of process and gating where individual developers could break things easy and often. CrowdStrike at its size likely has several levels of gating. Everyone writes bugs. Software is complex. Barring negligence its just the nature of software developer and modern Agile. Constant tradeoffs are made to dump planning and testing priorities to meet deadlines. Its why blame free RCAs and retros are a thing. If there truly is excess incompetence then they will get PIP'd or be the first to go in the next layoff.
@basso @Rocket River @Salvy you forget that these positions are organic meaning people have to want to do them how many hot Latino girls tell their parents that want to be a scrum master or debug code for the rest of their lives ? yeah
I think one thing that's relevant is how relatively low the barrier of entry is for a very comfortable middle / upper middle class lifestyle with a LOT of flexibility. There is a lot of organic desire to work in tech due to that alone. I agree though at the base level of what the job entails which is why CS program demographics from when I attended reflects more or less the demographics of most workplaces at the engineering level -- but bootcamp candidates pivoting from other industries tend to skew differently demographically. These are just my personal anecdotes.
I explained this in the other reply but let’s just talk about the other factor there’s no way firing people 3 days ago at Microsoft would affect software or a software patch that took months or longer to develop Like for example that dumb Acolyte series Firing Kathleen Kennedy now doesn’t fix that series being crap cause it was already made @Salvy
I suggest you go to a tech conference or just peek inside a computer science class You can see the demographics there Then go to a marketing convention there’s going to be a difference in race and sex and age
I mean yeah that’s exactly what I mentioned. I work in the industry lol. there’s a difference in desire for the underlying work and those that want to pivot for the comp and perks of the industry. I’m not disagreeing with you here. I’ve been to conferences and have a CS degree.
It's a self selection filter. Out of the 200 people in my MechE undergrad class about 15 girls and I felt sorry for them because of how much they would get crept on by people like you. Girls don't like geeked out male dominated communities because jrt feel like half the dudes are eye ****ing them while they try to do their hw. And these girls often were the best students because the type of person that fights through that type of creepiness to accomplish their intellectual dreams are more driven than the average dude who gets into a engineering major.
DEI means non white people But specifically woke whitey is included Meaning unskilled and always victimized Plus always identifying with another gender And pretending to be pro Palestinian and realizing their flag is not rainbow colored
Nothing wrong with DEI. Find me one example of a DEI hire that failed at their job and I'll give you 10 examples of non DEI hires that failed at their job. I have a lot of success and I enjoy working with people of diverse backgrounds and skill sets. In my experience, teams that are completely homogenous are generally not effective.
