I don't get the point. He got a 2nd opinion, it confirmed there's nothing to fix with knives, and now he'll start throwing again when his arm feels good. As it stands, he's a lottery ticket. We all knew that anyway.
Joe Espada said it’s safe to say Lance McCullers Jr will not pitch for the Astros again. “We wish him all the best in his coffee business.” Spoiler Lance McCullers pitches —> Lance McCullers gets hurt —> Lance McCullers rehabs —> Lance McCullers gets hurt —> Lance McCullers is shut down —> Lance McCullers tries to restart rehab —> Lance McCullers gets hurt —> repeat When’s the last time he pitched? 2017 World Series? *Ahem* Excuse me. 2 years ago! Just two more years at $17.7M!
Game 3 vs SEA 10/15/2022 Lance - 6 IP, 2 H, 0 ER ASTROS 1, MARINERS 0 F/18 https://www.espn.com/mlb/game/_/gameId/401467563/astros-mariners
Gave that injury prone guy a 5 year extension - what a joke. 2026 we are paying this guy, never should have given him 5 years... DD
115 million dollars we have given to Montero, Abreu, Brantley, LMJ, and Graveman the last 2 seasons. We've really spread it around.
Could have just blown it all and then some on Degrom! That being said, LMJ was given that deal before the 2021 season so wasn’t the last two years. Edit: My bad thought you meant given in the sense of handed out a contract…see you just meant spent in general
I said it over and over before the start of the season and I got so much push back on here, relying on Garcia and Lance to contribute this season and not adding SP depth in the off-season was going to be a mistake. Neither one is going to pitch. Lance is done and every time Garcia throws he suffers a set back. For the second season in a row, lack of SP depth will be our downfall
If Verlander is healthy, the Astros will probably have enough pitching IF they make the playoffs. Valdez/Blanco/Verlander/Brown/Kuch That is a rotation likely good enough to compete well. The Astros offense isn’t good enough though - you cannot run out sub .700 OPS guys at 1st and DH/LF.
